ONLY??

I had a conversation with a coworker recently who's been on a hospital-sponsored weight reduction program complete with special foods. She's staying focused to her regimen and the other day I stopped to talk to her and see how she's doing.

"You're losing weight, aren't you?"
"Yes, I am."
"I can tell. How much have you lost?"
She responds with a dismissive face. "Oh, ONLY 15 pounds."
"What's this ONLY 15 pounds?? That's awesome!! Go to the store and put 3 5-pound bags of sugar in a basket you have to carry and see what ONLY 15 pounds really feels like!"

Fast forward to another conversation with another coworker who had been walking at lunchtime that day.

"Good for you! How long did you walk?"
Here comes that dismissive face again. 'ONLY 20 minutes."
"What's this ONLY 20 minutes? Those minutes add up!!"

This month I accomplished something I haven't done in a long time: 1500 fitness minutes during January. It wasn't even the entire month of January; I didn't get a good start until the 5th or 6th and I wasn't really focused until I started the 5% Challenge on the 10th. 500 minutes went by and then 1,000 and then a week ago, I realized that I could get to 1500 by the end of the month by adding ONLY 10 more minutes during the day. As I looked for a place for 10 more minutes, I realized that my entire exercise day is broken up into 10-15 minute chunks. Somehow I'm getting 45 - 60 minutes in before I ever leave for work, a little bit at a time. A couple of 10 or 15 minute walks during the day and another 10 minutes after work. It really added up!!

I lost another 2 pounds this week, 7 pounds total since I started the 5% Challenge on 1/10. Some people might say ONLY 7 pounds but I grabbed my 8 pound medicine ball (7 is almost 8, isn't it?) and walked around with that periodically yesterday. I couldn't wait to put it away!! For me, it's definitely not ONLY 7 pounds!!

So here we are at a new month and new opportunities. I'm going for the 1500 minutes again; an easily accomplished goal since I will start seriously on the 1st instead of the 10th as I did last month!!

And I will do what worked last month.

ONLY 10 minutes.
