A Great Day with the Doctor
Thursday, January 29, 2015
Usually a trip to the doctor for my annual physical was filled with dread. This year's visit was much different. Don't get me wrong, I still grudgingly face my time in the stirrups (I don't think there's anyone who enjoys that.) However, this year I walked into the exam room with 7 months of taking care of my body to be proud of.
First, my weight is down from my last visit, in the spring of 2014. Then an amazing blood pressure reading of 115/75 got me the best ever compliment, "Your exercise is really paying off for you!"
The rest of the poking and prodding revealed that nothing was out of the ordinary. My doctor had a huge smile on his face while handing me the paperwork for my mammogram and litany of blood tests. I'm looking forward to those results, as last year my blood sugar was elevated and my iron was very low.
So often we check our progress by the weight on the scale, or by what the measuring tape says. I also like to take a reading of how I'm feeling; a general "wellness barometer." It was a wonderful and delightful surprise to realize that a positive visit to the doctor can actually mean a whole lot more than a number on the scale!
I've got a huge smile on my face and am stoked to see what other positives I can attain before my next venture into the office!
