Great vlog! I just read an article like this, about how we need to bring more play into our exercise, for increased longevity. It said if we involve someone and make it a playdate, we'll get more of the benefits of exercise.
Sometimes I do want to be a kid again. That's usually when I feel really unkidlike, in that I can't jump right now or run, because my hip hurts and it keeps popping out of place. Second to actually working off all the excess weight, which is important but is a really lengthy process, I think it helps to feel like you ARE still a kid, albeit a "big kid" now. So it's kind of a mind thing. Be a kid, go ahead!
So true. I recently bought a Latin dance DVD, a belly blasting walk DVD and a Zumba DVD. This morning I tried the belly blaster and although I have trouble jumping (bum knees) I enjoyed the twisting. Reminded me of the times my sister and I would do "The Twist" way back in the day. I had fun this morning!
I agree but only to a point. I know places where the swings are taken out of schools playgrounds or parks cause people think its too dangerous. (which I think is so stupid, we all played on them and never got killed..lol) however there are some kids I know off that are young and all they do is sleep or watch tv or play shooting video games. then they wonder why kids are obese now days, oh I wonder? In some ways yes I would want to be a kid but in a lot more ways I thank God im not the kid anymore. 1663 days ago
Such a great Vlog! I found this so motivating and inspiring this morning. I definitely have that inner child. My son laughs when I walk around singing the Toys-r-Us theme song ("I don't wanna grow up....I'm a Toys-r-Us kid....") because he knows it's true. Between his Dad and I, I am the fun-loving silly one, and Dad is the grumpy serious one. I love your take on childhood! It's so accurate too, kids love to play and don't call it exercise. A lot of times, I think back on recess and gym and playing with my friends and wish I were a kid again. Probably daily! It was fun. Now everyone is scattered, geographically, and I don't exercise with anyone anymore. Except sometimes I will go on a walk with my Mom. What am I doing that's childlike? I'm trying to listen to more music this year. I think we should all have music in our lives. Oh, and I've just come back to SparkPeople after a long time away, so I'm relearning everything. It's hard! There's so many things to do, and ways to customize things. I love to read children's literature. I've been reading through Rick Riordan's books, everything I can get a hold of. I really don't exercise as much as I like, especially lately because I've had a cold for two months and my hip's been bothering me. When I feel up to it, I do some walking, either in place to a DVD, or I walk to the store. I'm thinking of buying a new jump rope when I feel better. Well said, Sara! Remember tether ball? My sister and I would have so much fun with that when we were kids. Badminton was another game we played a lot. Recess was always a blast at school. Yes, if we could just love to exercise now and have it just be something that we did and not a have-to. I know how that kids will come into the house for a drink of after playing so hard outside. I like that too. They knew that they wanted water, which is very important to us who are trying to lose weight. So I will make sure I'm drinking my water this week! 1663 days ago
