Another way to walk with a friend

I have been wearing a fitbit for nearly three years now. I have worked towards 10000 steps a day for a long time...and make it nearly every day. My streaks are more likely to be broken by my forgetting to log in than my not making the steps...even when I traveled last y ear, I did laps in the waiting areas of airports and in the parking lot of the resort we visited!
At home, though, it can get a bit boring to trek the same route up and down my driveway. One full lap is approx 1000 steps. For the last few months (I can't recall when I started) I began calling a shut in friend when I head out the door to get my steps in. She craves the conversation and I don't particularly love being on the phone, but by calling Mac, I have found my steps seem easier to do since my mind is occupied. Mac gets a good visit and I get my steps...or a good chunk of them done. I can't walk the full length of the driveway with my house phone, so sometimes I do circles where we park or walk half the length of the drive...whatever the case, it works.
NOW I have an added incentive. Mac is trying to get up out of her chair or wheel chair and walk or stand for at least a little while as we are talking...I have tried to encourage her to move as much as she can each day and gradually she IS becoming more active and more mobile. So, now we "walk"together...by phone!
