A Rough Day.........

Monday, January 26, 2015

I received a phone call today, informing me of the death of one of my Mom's best friends. She stood up for my Mom at their wedding in 1944. My Mom will be 91 years old in May and this is her last friend from her past. I talked to her for a couple of hours and though she will miss this woman, she is HAPPY for her. Her health had been failing, and Mom had been worried about her. She is glad that her friend did NOT have to suffer. She is worried about what will happen to her dog now. The dog is 12 years old and she hopes that a neighbor who really likes the dog will take her in for her remaining years.

As I talk to my Mom about how her life has changed in just the past 15 years (since my Dad died), I cannot help but think about what my life will be like if I live to be 91. It is a very sobering thought and I hope to be as healthy as possible for as long as possible. Being a member of Spark People for the past 6 years has definitely put me on the right track.

So sorry for the loss of your mom's friend. My mom's lengthy decline (from 91 to 93 she was in hospice care 4 times) was very difficult for her, and hard to watch and be unable to help. So I agree with your mom that a relatively quick passing can sometimes be a blessing. I hope someone takes the dog, maybe the friend arranged with a trusted friend. (I have friends that have asked me to take their dog if anything happens to them).

Hugs to both you and your mom,
    Alison

    Hi Patti,
I didn't see this until this morning. What a lovely attitude your mother has. She sounds like a very wise woman.

I think we all wonder what our future will be... perhaps it's better that we don't know. If I could live into my 90's, with a reasonable quality of health and my mind more-or-less intact, I would be fine with it. My biggest fear, I think, is Alzheimer's. I've read several articles lately indicating that 72% of sufferers are female. I never realized that before. I do not want to live if I don't know who, or where, I am. Nor do I want to suffer physically... or to be dependent on others for mobility.

I try not to think about it too much, because there are no answers, only questions.

Love to your mother, and hugs for you,
    Gail

We all look at death in our own way, it doesn't have to be bad.

My sincere sympathies Patti for your mum. I am with you, we need to take even more care of ourselves as we get older and SP certainly focuses us to that.

    Be well my friend emoticon

Honestly, I have hoped that I don't live that long as I've already lost so many and will have no one by that age. Plus, I'll outlive my finances.
