When one receives a phone call asking for a hot chocolate to be delivered to where they are ice fishing, one must dress appropriately! Yes?
It was quite breezy this afternoon and the temp was about -10. With wind chill it felt like -17. I was running a few errands. My daughter and husband were at the local conservation area ice fishing. I just got home and my daughter called and asked if I could deliver a snack and some hot chocolate. So off I go to Timmy's and get said items and head over to the lake. I had my heated sweater, winter coat and toque, mittens and my winter boots on. Perfect. I park and head out on to the ice meeting my daughter half way. When you are out in the middle of a frozen lake there are no wind breaks. I made sure my sweater was on high. I turned so that my back was to the wind but my coffee turned to chilled coffee in short order. The next thing I felt was a prickling feeling on the backs of my knees. Soon my thighs were numb.
It reminded me of a story I had recently told my daughter. We were out for coffee and a group of teens had come in during their lunch break. We were commenting on their poor judgement because it was so cold out and they were not prepared. When I was in Grade 9 girls didn't wear pants. So in -20 weather I walked to school in my mini skirt and my legs were numb by the time I got there.
Too bad I didn't remember that before I left the house this afternoon. I could have worn my snow pants!
However things are looking good. A snow storm is coming on Tuesday and will drop 15 cm of snow!
Where are my snow pants?
