Self Advocacy

This week I attended a group where the activity was about improving self advocacy.

What is self-advocacy? It's acting on your own best interest and promoting your long term happiness. A lack of self-advocacy can contribute to low self-esteem, depression, and your needs not getting met.

"Getting my wants and needs satisfied belongs at the top of my daily to do list. If I don't make myself first priority, who will? If I get my needs satisfied I will have more energy to satisfy the wants and needs of others."

This week I will put myself first by:

-Going to bed at a decent time despite phone calls and other things happening in my environment
-Attending groups and therapy sessions
-Begin Whole 30 and participate in BLC 27
-Read a book vs spending time online
-Take time to journal and process thoughts and feelings
-Do something crafty
-Listen to music/walk on the treadmill
-Don't buy things for others that don't deserve it
-Decrease negativity towards myself/learn to recognize negative self talk
-Set goals and be flexible
-Getting and making food that I want to eat vs agreeing with others
-Disengage from emotional abuse instead of stressing over it

I want to encourage all of you to give this some thought. Sometimes we are completely unaware of how disrespectful we are towards ourselves. A little bit of assertiveness can really go a long way in contributing to a healthy lifestyle.
