Gotta push through life's twists and turns

Ugh. So I was feeling pretty good after last week. We went out to eat Mexican food Friday night, but I didn't sweat it. I got a grilled chicken, pepper, and onion mix and only ate about half of it with a few tortillas. I ate a few chips. Drank a little booze. I went over my calorie limit, but I took it in stride and still tracked it.

Saturday was our big grocery shop day. About once every six weeks we will make a big grocery run. We hit up Kroger and Sam's Club and get about 95% of the groceries we'll need over the next month or so. It's really handy because it saves money. I have a lot fewer impulse buys because I'm not at the store 2 or 3 times a week. We have to plan ahead for meals. We don't have a strict day-to-day meal plan, but we have a general idea of the kinds of meals we will do in a month. Based on that, we build a master grocery list to make sure we have basics. When we get home, we'll split big bags of chicken, fish, beef, bread, cheese, etc. and freeze it all.




This works great because we both despise going to the store. We also live about 30 minutes from the nearest chain grocery store. We have a great local grocery in town with a great fresh fruit and vegetable section that I take advantage of during the times between the big trips. But the prices are pretty high there, so I try to limit what we get.

We managed to finish up and stopped to get sushi on our way home. I had prepared for this by using one of my PB and banana protein shakes for lunch so I didn't go too crazy again. I still managed to go over my calories again, so grrrr. The few glasses of wine I had didn't help either.

I wasn't prepared for what happened Sunday though. I got up and man, was I miserable. I felt weak, bloated, and my stomach felt both painful and queasy. I have felt that way since Sunday. I think it's some kind of stomach bug, because I've also been struggling with a low-grade fever.

I'm not throwing in the towel just yet, though. I don't have any particular goals this week because of the bloaty yuckiness, BUT I'm just kind of sticking with my goals from last week. Stick to my calorie range, get plenty of water, and try to just rest as much as possible.

I don't know what that will mean when I weigh in on Friday. But at this point, I just want to get past my stomach feeling gross and feeling so weak.

One piece of good news today though. I didn't want my bug to keep me from cooking an awesome meal. I found a great recipe for balsamic/honey roasted brussels sprouts. I ended up pairing that with seared salmon, sweet potato, and crockpot ranch mushrooms. AMAZING. This was probably the best-tasting meal I've ever made and I could eat the brussels sprouts for days and days.
