I thought I'd give this a try so on Friday I just drafted an email to myself with everything I was eating for the last few days. I drank water throughout, but sometimes noted it when it was more of a "conscious effort" to drink. Here goes:
Friday 1/9/15
7:30 am-- drank about 8 oz water, Ate 1/2 of a kreme filled krispy kreme donut on the way to work
8 am -- felt gross about it, but ate the rest of the kreme and threw away the remaining half of the donut. ate 2 prenatal gummy vitamins
9 am -- ate 1 banana with coffee. coffee had about 3 T (heavy hand today!) of natural bliss vanilla creamer. drank 16 oz water
11 am-- 1.25 serving of Trader Joe's Chicago mix popcorn (this stuff is so addicting)
1:30 lunch-- 1 serving steamed lentils scrambled with 2 eggs in light olive oil. 4 T reduced fat cream cheese, 16 oz of sparkling water
730 pm-- glass of white wine while Salmon in oven.
8 pm -- 1 serving salmon stuffed with couscous and dill, 1.5 serving Kale sweet potato & squash pizza

11am-- 2 bowls Crispix with 1% milk
1 pm-- 4 abelskivers with strawberry jelly (getting bored, starting to binge)
2pm --2/3 of a sausage egg white thing, it was gross.
4 pm -- 7 Swedish fish, 1 serving Chicago mix popcorn
7 pm -- 2 slices pizza from whole foods, 4 pieces of John's sushi, 1/2 a beer

10:30 am - 3 pieces 45 calorie wheat bread toast with land o lakes olive oil butter, 2 fried eggs, coffee with natural bliss vanilla creamer
1pm - 1.5 servings of Chicago mix
3pm - 1/2 mini panettone w butter, handful of grapes
6pm - lobster ravioli with vodka sauce (trader joe's) herbed salad mix with tomatoes, carrots, pumpkin seeds and balsamic glaze.
7 pm - glass of pinot noir
8 pm - 1.5 servings of Chicago mix
so my general thought is I ate a ton of carbs this weekend, and not nearly enough protein. I haven't logged this all yet (for some reason writing down is easier than logging for me), but I know my ratios are terrible. But my other thought is that it could have been way worse. Besides going to Whole Foods for the pizza slices, I didn't eat out at all, which is a big accomplishment for a weekend. I even see the pizza as mini-win, because I wanted pizza, and normally would have caved and ordered a whole pie and had leftovers tempting me. I also think on weekdays I need to have a good snack planned for around 4 pm, between lunch and dinner, so that I don't eat so much for dinner.

Idk if I'll keep doing this, but maybe. At a certain point I knew I was going to post this, but it didn't really work in shaming me into eating any better. So we'll see.

Tracking your food is a great idea. There really is something about writing it down that makes you feel more accountable for what you put in your mouth. After I started tracking and being honest with myself I started really being more conscious of what I was consuming. The snacks were hard for me too (& still are!). I found it helps to keep lots of fruit in the house....mostly because I hate seeing things go to waste, so another reason to pick the healthier option.

If you plan your meals in advance, even just a little bit, you can prepare for the hungries, and avoid them. Carry around almonds and apple sliced on weekends, or hard boiled eggs... or yogurt! Or even pepperoni sticks (turkey ones have less fat!)

Sometimess we have to see what we are really eating on paper before we believe it for ourselves! It seems to me like you must be starving... you don't eat much at all!

I know next week will be better! Keep loggin like this! It's working for you!!!!

What a great idea! You know, it doesn't look all that bad. Maybe carb heavy, but you did well on your portions. It looks a lot like me on the weekend.. no real lunch, grab a snack on the go. Mine on the other hand would have way more sugar! ;)
I'm trying harder though and did well this weekend with my sugar.. well after my son's birthday party goody was out of the house!
