January Week in Review

1st Check-in of the Year:

I am happy to report that my little orchid is blooming again.

I am also happy to report that I am continuing my walking streak each day for at least 30 minutes since the first of December, whether it's outdoors or on an inside track, I am walking and it feels like I am moving forward.
This is the 3rd week of returning to following ChaLEAN's strength training and I am "kicking it out" bumping up my weights and this intention was to fill in the time between the fall and spring semesters. I teach a strength training class that begins again tomorrow and it would have been a month off if I hadn't picked up the weights here at home in the interim.
Although, let me just say that I believe that teaching yoga is my "calling". 21 people came to my Saturday morning class (10th). And 13 people came on Tuesday evening (6th) and Thursday evening (8th) despite frigid wind chills and slick road conditions. Thursday morning's wind chills were -26 below zero here in northern Indiana. I am so thankful for each person who comes to my yoga classes.
I am actively participating in challenges on Spark People again, using my food and fitness trackers and trying to drink 2 liters of water each day. I am thrilled to be back in the BLC 27 Challenge on the CAMO Crew and also participating in the January 2015 Beauty Over 50 team's challenge.
This week's non-scale victories included:

Tuesday - did not eat any chocolates that a co-worker brought into the office and knowing that I am a sugar addict, this was difficult throughout the day. Also did not eat any chocolate covered cashews nor chocolate covered pretzels that an attendee offered to gift to me after yoga class Tuesday evening.

Wednesday - My 58th birthday occurred on the 29th of December during the week between Christmas and New Year's when I had time away from the office environment. To extend and share my birthday celebration at work, I chose Wednesday and took in Clementine tangerines, organic Gala apples, strawberries, blueberries, blackberries, grape tomatoes and mini carrots, instead of a birthday cake.

Thursday - Stayed home from the office due to extreme weather conditions, but worked up a sweat twice by using a 46 minute ChaLEAN Extreme Burn Intervals dvd and then when noon arrived, I used Leslie Sansone's Walk Away The Pounds, 51 minute, 3 mile indoor walking dvd for the first time.

Friday - I said no to a high calorie brownie layered-type dessert that a co-worker brought in to the office. I said no to homemade chocolate chip cookies that another co-worker brought in. Again these sugar filled temptations made it very difficult for me to be in the office environment as I struggled and am happy to report, I succeeded with using my willpower over sugar.

On Friday's lunch hour, even though my walking partner was off of work and not there to support my efforts, I walked alone across the campus in the
snow and then walked on an indoor track to continue in my weight loss endeavors.

P.S. It's not all pretty, a "Wake-Up Call" occurred early in my week (right before lunch on Tuesday, the 6th of January) when due to frustration, I scarfed down 2 Nestle's Coffee Crisp wafer-like chocolate bars (260 calories each, not what I planned) that a co-worker brought back from Canada. I had to STOP

and ask myself, "Lee, is this what you really want to be like in this new year? Is this what you really want to do? Is this going to help you get to your weight loss goal? And that was a turn-around point for me this week. Now I feel like I'm headed in the right direction.
