a dose of reality

Sometimes reality strikes, and you just have to take a good look at it. I've decided to start a manual food log, just to see if I really am making healthy choices for the most part. And I think I am, but I do find that when I feel like I have to write it down I make different choices. I don't dip my hand in the bag of nuts or crackers or cookies, or whatever other snack foods I have lying around.
I'm also trying to up my daily step count, as I have not been hitting my weekly goal of 70,000 steps, and I know it's because I am not walking to work as often as I was during the warmer months, and I'm also not walking as much during work hours or on weekends.
Since I have been off work this week, I've been able to get a lot of stuff done, including more cooking, getting out skiing midweek, putting up some pictures I've been wanting to hang, and arranging for a yoga class and facial. I feel really good about these things, and I'm glad I was able to get them going.
But being off is also an opportunity to face those habits I'm not so fond of, like the aforementioned mindless snacking. So the food journal comes in. I want to see if my mental image of my eating actually matches what I'm putting into my body! I do focus on whole foods, I try to do a lot of cooking myself, but I also like to have some healthier convenient foods around (I get Naturebox snacks, and some of those are SO tasty!) but even if they are healthier, they still add up if you eat too much of them! So I'm going to keep a food log, and I'm not sure how long this will last, but I will do it until I feel like I am on the right track with the healthy eating I think I'm doing!
I forgot to add, my night time knitting project it going well! So far this week, I've added a few rows each night!
