Okay, so it's a week into the new year and I've lost 2.5 pounds so far!
I feel like I'm off to a great (and healthy) start. My plan is to chronicle each step of my weight loss journey right here on this blog; I believe doing so will help me stay accountable to my weight loss goals.
I'm re-reading the Beck Diet Solution. It's an amazing book that teaches us how to use cognitive behavioral techniques to lose weight. Today's task is to write down all of the reasons I want to lose weight and to look at this list at specific times throughout the day. According to the book dieting is always easy in the beginning, but after awhile we start to lose sight of our goals, in part, because we stop focusing on WHY we want to lose weight, especially when faced with the ever-present temptation of yummy foods.
This lesson couldn't have come at a better time for me because my boyfriend and I are going to the movies today. Now this may sound like a harmless enough activity, but going to the movies with Lorenzo is a dieter's nightmare. Forget about the ridiculously fattening foods at the theater, oh no, that's not enough of an obstacle for us. Our evening will begin with Lorenzo making his chili cheese dogs and packing those and a 6-pack of soda into his backpack. Then we'll stop at our favorite restaurant for nachos and pack that up too. When we get to the theater he'll get the largest size of popcorn they have, cover it in butter, and all of this will be our "treat" for the show. Is it any wonder I gained 10 pounds during our first 6 months together? Luckily, I've learned not to eat the majority of this crap but popcorn is still a weakness of mine so my plan is to allow myself a predetermined amount of popcorn but skip everything else.
In the meantime, here's my list of reasons for wanting to lose weight:
To look better in and out of clothes
To have an easier time shopping
To fit into clothes better
To have a healthy bmi
To have more energy
To set a better example for my family
To have an increased sense of self-esteem
To be all-around healthier
To lose my stomach and not look pregnant anymore
To be less self-conscious
To age well and prevent avoidable illnesses, aches, and pains
Have a great day, everyone!
