Beck- Day 16

I have decided to BLOG on my Beck experience. Although I cannot commit to a daily bog, I have greatly appreciated those daily bloggers. So, I will blog in hopes that sharing may help others. I will try to blog at least twice each week. I am working this Beck system very hard. I have been trying to lose weight for so long. A couple of years ago, I went to a very stressful time and I gained a great deal in a very short time (my doctor ran numerous tests and said that the stress alone can do that). However, I have not lost that weight. I have always eaten healthy, so I believe that I may need to work more on consistency and quantity. I was fascinated by the positive comments on the Beck book, so I bought the pink book a few weeks ago.

Thus far, I went through the first fourteen days twice. I wanted to start day 15 yesterday. I think that it helped to take my time and digest the initial information. That is a different approach for me. In the past, I would have started at day 15 emoticon So far, I have checked off all of the daily goals. The most difficult part has been to sit down every time I eat. I had no idea how often I ate a few pieces of cereal or cheese while I was " on the run". I have five minutes between the classes I teach. It has been tough for me not to eat a half of granola bar, but I have stuck to the plan. emoticon I can see why the cards help. I need constant reminders. Today, I kept the NO CHOICE phrase in mind. I have also noticed that the time right after school will be tough and I may need to play with that. I eat breakfast at 5:30 and arrive at school by 6:00. Then, I have a small snack around 10 (short break) and lunch at 11:00. I am trying not to eat until I go home at 4:00 or 4:30 because I can make a nice, healthy snack. Today, however, I had quite a headache at the end of the day until I ate. I will see how I can make this work better.

I am excited and hopeful (and also scared). I guess that after trying so many approaches, there is that fear of failure. However, I plan to carry this out one day at a time.

    The break between your lunch and when you get home is longer. I would not do well with that long of a break (5 hours starts hitting me hard). What about 1-2 bites of something healthy as you finish your day to tide you over till you get home? You can plan healthy snacks to go with you and it doesn't have to be a full snack (100 cals might work vs 300 cals), but it could tide you over (keep your eating hormones level).

    One day at a time is good, you are making it, keep pushing.

    You've noticed for the first time how much you eat on the run. That by itself is a revelation. Eating only while sitting down is the best way to know you've eaten, as silly as that sounds.

    Good for you, taking your time and going slowly! Give yourself credit.

    That "eating sitting down" thing was key for me too. Simple but powerful.

    Having a small healthy snack with you for the 11 am to 4 pm stretch may be helpful: I often find even a Greek yogourt cup (fat free, sugar free, 50 calories) is enough to make a difference.

    Give yourself BIG CREDIT for going through the first 14 days two times, including the tough days 10 and 11. So glad you have decided to blog about Beck. I have benefitted so much from doing it. Hope you do, too.

    My best suggestion for overcoming fear of failure is to look at your successes. Right now you have 28 good days behind you! You have a history of eating healthy. I suspect you know how to make good choices and enjoy food that is truly good for you. Wonderful assets you have already developed. You have shown you can change, that you can sit down to eat. You have it!! Just maintain your efforts and soon you will be maintaining your goal weight!!! -Marsha
