5:30 AM is a GREAT time to go to the gym!

I've never been a morning person. Even after 2 years of getting up at 4-something, I hate waking up before the sun. I naturally do my best thinking and working in the evening. It energizes me. Unfortunately, my life doesn't work that way. No big. It's just what is, and I normally make the best of it. When J and I recently took our winter break from walking (we are talking about wind chills below zero this week), I saw an opportunity to fill that time at the gym and work on those week leg muscles that are causing my knees to hurt so much. It's such an impediment to fitness that it just seemd a good choice.

So, last Friday, I arrived at the gym about 5:30 and found just the right number of people there to make me comfortable. Not so empty that I feel like I'm trespassing, but not so many that I have to wait for a turn at anything. I knew I'd need to dial it back from my last visit. It's been a very long time since I was there (all that wasted money). Didn't dial it back quite far enough. I didn't injure myself, but it did take until today to recover. Way too long. I dialed it back a notch further, and I think I got it just right today.

I woke up before my alarm. That's usually an unpleasant thing for me. It usually means I'm up an hour or more before I need to be, and it just throws off my whole cycle. Turned out, I only laid there pondering the situation for about 10 minutes before my music came from my alarm. Perfect. It took me a few minutes to get moving, but once I was up, it...was...awesome. I can't remember the last time I started that day with that much energy. Of course that just fed into a great mood and I couldn't wait to get my day started. The gym was great. I was focused on strength training today and didn't think I'd have any time cardio, but got a quick 10 minutes in.

Then I left for work and was greeted by a dusting of snow. Driving in snow doesn't bother me particularly, but apparently it did for about 3 dozen drivers who managed to slide off the road, crash or flip over. Of course, I feel badly for them, but I spent the next 3 hours crawling to work. I'm so glad I got the gym in early.

    I agree that is a great time to go. I work overnight ( 5pm - 5am) and I usually hit the gym right after work for boot camp or spin. On my days off, I am usually up at 4 am so that I can make class.

    great job getting there and killing it.

    Yeah... snow... I personally love driving in the stuff (Jeep Girl) but I don't like it so much when other people are around... lol

    I wish the gyms in my area opened that soon, it would be perfect to fit exercise in my hectic daily schedule. Unfortunately, the earliest is 8.30 am!!!!
