First Week of Retirement
Sunday, January 04, 2015
We can't really count the last 4 days as real retirement since it was a holiday and then we went to Niceville, FL, to visit our oldest daughter and her husband. She had won the bid on a 2 night condo stay on the beach in Destin and gave it to us so we spent Friday and Saturday nights there. The condos are set up so when you walk in the front door the entire unit is on one side of the hall leading to a great room. Not real big but still had a king size bed with a bath that led into a small room with the tub/shower and washer and dryer and that room led into another bathroom which exited to that hall. In between the master bedroom and that bathroom door was a set of bunk beds built into the wall rather than having a separate bedroom. There was a full kitchen and then the great room with the back wall just two sets of sliding doors right off the beach. Nice set up and with the hideabed would sleep 6. The grandkids would have loved it but it was gray, foggy and windy with some wild surf for the gulf coast. It was still super relaxing to be able to sit inside and listen to those waves. It was a great weekend-lunch together with DD and SIL then 3 of us went to the movie Unbroken. SIL didn't go mostly because of his PTSD plus doing some studying as he works for a new degree. The only bad part of the entire trip was the drive home in the rain for an entire 6 hours with no one slowing down so there were accidents everywhere. We almost were included in that as a large pickup wanted to change lanes-he DID use his blinker which I saw and mentioned to my husband so he started slowing down but then had to slam on the brakes as the guy nearly took off the front of our car because he was distracted talking on the phone and didn't see us. I don't think he ever did realize we were right there. Luckily we avoided being a statistic-the cops had enough to do with all the other accidents along the road. Can't get the photo I want to upload.
We are now home safe and sound so tomorrow begins our first week of Larry's retirement. All day every day with him home-I'm hoping this first week he will be willing to do some more purging and get things out of this house that we aren't using. Thursday he is going to his first official lunch with some of the other retirees. He's been going most Thursday's but now he's officially part of the group.
