Great Changes

Sunday, January 04, 2015

So I have been at my new job at Humana for almost a month now. I was sitting here reflecting on the new year and all the possibilities this year holds. I decided in August I was leaving my old job after our vacation to Florida. I hadn't had a whole week's vacation in a long time. Being away from my job and just relaxing (and not being depressed for a week!) really got me thinking. I went back to work and I fell into the same rut. I spent a couple of weeks just plain miserable. That was no way to live. My blood sugar got out of control. My blood pressure went back up. I had to get out! I spent 2 weeks looking for a job. I took a HUGE risk and left my job of 6.5 years to work as a temp at an insurance company. I cried in the bathroom at my old job when I was offered the job. I wasn't sad, I was elated, joyful to know it was over. I could move on. My husband of course was skeptical because we have always provided stability for the kids and working as a temp was not a guarentee of having a job in 6 months. It was a shaky 2 month there. I worked hard to prove myself in case there was a possibility of getting hired on the place but I worked a shift that allowed me to go on job interviews before work. I spent nearly a month looking and interviewing. I had some good offers and some fantastic interviews but nothing I was like "wow, that's where I want to work and retire from." Until I interviewed at Humana. I was beside myself because I had been submitting resumes to them for almost 4 years trying to get in the door!

I LOVE my job. I am helping people everyday. Granted sometimes I have had patients who aren't so nice to me, I have to remind myself what these people are going thru day after day. I am joining the gym that is on site tomorrow since I bought some good gym shoes this weekend. I also am starting back on Weight Watchers too this weekend. I am feeling so much better. It is hard for me to get used to being treated the way we do at Humana because of what I went through at my last job. Not only with my immediate supervisor but with our bosses above her. It seems almost too good to be true. Now I know why it was voted one of the best companies to work for!

So I am back on my path to getting healthy. I just need to make a doc appointment to get my A1c checked! Things are finally looking up. I am on my way.

They are really good to us. This year they are starting an effort to get employees to volunteer in our communities. They are giving us paid time off to work on volunteer projects!
