DAY 3: Default Diet

Saturday, January 03, 2015

A useful concept that has stuck with me for me years is the idea of a "default diet." What do you eat most of the time? I have a fairly standard default diet for breakfast: cold cereal or oatmeal, milk/soy milk, and a fruit. I eat this most days and have the components on hand. I also have a good routine with dinner at night (thought this too could be improved) but lunch is something I need to work on regularizing. I find that less variation in my diet keeps me on track better. I don't have to spend as much time weighing and measuring after a while and old meals are programmed into my meal tracker. This doesn't mean that I eat only a handful of different meals, but it means that I have a few that I default to. When i don't have time to plan something better, I can go with the old standby. Some food for thought.

I have my go to meals also. Meals that I eat regular and never seem to tire of. Foods that not only taste good to me but feel feel good as I digest them. Yes - it is easier this way because it is easier to judge portion sizes but who says watching what you eat has to be difficult?

I do this pretty well for breakfast. It's a great idea! I'll have to work on lunch and dinner.
