OK. I'm not in a hopeless situation after all.

A big THANK YOU to SparkPeople's Dean Anderson, who writes in 3 Weight Loss Tips for Men, ". . . you don’t need a six pack to greatly reduce your health risk. What you want is to lose your keg—to be able to lay down flat on your back without your stomach sticking up higher than your rib cage."

Why THANK YOU, Dean?

I weighed-in this morning to set my 2015 baseline. I don't think I've ever weighed this much--30 pounds above my target weight : (.
*And* I'm a slight guy so it's all around my middle. Standing, if I look down, I see nothing but belly curve and then floor. Do I even have legs, etc.? I wonder.

Getting back on track can seem a daunting task, as so many of you know, and any little glimmer of encouragement is welcome. You can imagine I lay on the floor immediately upon reading Dean's statement, hoping for a positive poke. I was damn glad to discover ribs sticking up higher than belly! Doesn't mean I'm any closer to target weight, but it's good to believe my avoirdupois is still more cosmetically challenging than health-threatening.

And, having been a Sparker for lo these many years, I know in my heart of hearts that losing 30 lbs. is manageable. Plenty of my SparkFriends have successfully lost much more than that. I know that at losing a pound and a half a week, I can be swimsuit-ready sometime in May. I was pretty good about walking between Christmas and New Year's so I feel confident I'm back on track for regaining endurance; Boot Camp starts up again next week and I'm ready to rejoin and give it my best on Mondays and Wednesdays. And of course it's time to eat properly again and re-ignite my relationship with Nutrition Tracker. He's such a good friend I don't know why I let our relationship wane so often!

All of which is by way of saying Happy New Year, SparkFriends. May you reach and maintain your health/fitness/weight management goals throughout 2015 and beyond. I'm looking forward to keeping healthy and keeping on Sparking together with you again : )

Ah yes, food tracking. I found myself waning on that and I'm back doing it too. Love that little pie chart at the bottom. It keeps me honest on what I'm putting into my body. Good luck in 2015!

The holidays have been hard on me too. Can I blame the holidays instead of myself? Let's do it. Let's get back in shape.
