*A letter to me*

Dear Sandy~
It seems like I have known you all of my life. You and I have so much in common. It seems we always take care of everyone else (but don't do such a good job taking care of ourselves). And encouraging others brings us great joy! When was the last time you said, or even thought, something encouraging to yourself?

Well, here's the deal. We know each other pretty well. But I would like to really get to know you much better. What makes you smile? What is your favorite healthy food? What is an exercise that you really enjoy? (not just do because you should) And what happy memories have helped to make you who you are?

Over the next 10 weeks let's learn to take care of us. Let's learn to actually like us. How 'bout making ourselves a priority to us? I am going to try some new recipes and exercises to see how much healthier I can feel. And, hmm, let's see. . . how 'bout a daily affirmation. I am going to journal (or blog) something that I like about me, something I can do, something I have tried, or just in general how I have spent some time taking better care of me. I can't wait to see how this changes my outlook on life and my perception of me. I think that I don't spend enough time thinking about who I am, what I need, what I want. It is time to add "me" to my list of daily priorities.

I know that I need to take better care of myself and my health. But knowing hasn't been enough. Now it's time to make some real changes, starting with daily reminders that I am worth the time and effort. If all of my other friends are worthy of my time and effort, shouldn't I be too??? Here is to a new beginning, a new friendship, and a variety of ways to get to know myself and celebrate myself throughout the process. I can't wait to compare notes in 10 weeks.

    I remember my AHA moment from years ago... After the kids left home DH and I wanted to go out to dinner and when I was asked what I would like -- I really had no clue. got me thinking about the fact that doing for others was simple.... doing for me was the real challenge.

    I started my inner look 10 years ago. every few years I revisit and see if there is something else I might like to learn about myself.

    This is probably the first year that I've managed to get out and really put me first -- surprisingly enough -- you will see it's not selfish... it's a gift you give not only yourself but to everyone else as well =)
