Don't start the marathon at a sprint

Tuesday, November 25, 2014

I'm back on SparkPeople! I'm so happy! I have been off SparkPeople for over a year, and have not been satisfied with the results. emoticon For the last two months, especially, I have been off my work out. First, sprained my knee playing back yard volley ball. The first and last time I play on a surface that is NOT a gym floor. I love volleyball! The next week, I had the flu. After that, I got a cold. emoticon Ugh! I was so frustrated with my physical condition. Not being able to walk frustrates me than any other physical problems I've ever had. I am finally able to work out again but thought I could start right back where I had been. NO WAY! I'm scaling back to 10 minutes to start w/ & feel great about the results. I know I want to do so much more, but starting back at a slower pace will, I hope keep me from getting discouraged too early. Your sujavascript:%20void(0);pport is appreciated!

I laugh at how many of us are in the re-start club.

Is there a team for that? It seems like everybody I am interacting with is just getting back to this after a few months to a year off.

    I love that!

    I am not alone.

I am trying to have the same wisdom.

I did Sparkpeople two years ago and started off only being able to do ten minutes a day on a recumbent bike. I couldn't even walk on a treadmill without twisting my ankle.

Within 6 weeks, I was doing an hour on a treadmill.

I took a year off for caretaking and wanted to zoom ahead, too, but had to start slower again, but this time I ended up back at being able to do an hour on a treadmill twice as fast.

It is wisdom to start slow, but I am praying it will be a surprisingly fast process for you, too. emoticon

Welcome back to re-start club! I just re-started myself.

I think that the main thing I can say is that this time I am truly ready to take each day as a new start. Tracking and exercising again is going to be a challenge, but for each day I am here I am doing better than I was when I was not on SP.

The support and information here is great. I know that this is the time for us to shine.

One step at a time we will keep on going on the journey.
