Ever since 9-11, I realized the utmost respect for our First Responders! They serve & protect us every day in our own backyards! When I found out my friend Suzanna was Race Director of this new race, I was in!
D was at Honeymoon Island doing her training long run of 11 miles so I represented at this race. Another friend, Ashley worked some great race photography and shared with me.
The field of runners was smaller than most races I run. Regardless, the quality was still strong as several of our Elite from my two run clubs participated.
Had to check out the Finish Line so...
The race was unique as we left en masse from the Fire Station to the Starting Line, led by full flashing lights of the Engine Co. 57 fire truck and our Pinellas Country Sheriffs! I loved the hometown feel of this race!
Suzanne started us with an air horn, followed by the sirens of the fire engine, and we were off. Way cool!
The course was one of the prettiest, and easiest, running on closed streets through the park portion of a neighborhood bordered by Tarpon Lake!
I decided to just have fun with it, start my Garmin for distance, and not get hung up on pace. I embraced the run as a gift on a gorgeous morning. Focusing only on my Pose run style, it felt like I was on cruise control and came in to the finish strong.
Runners came to the finish line cheered on by family, friends, and cooks waiting to serve a fantastic pancake breakfast!
Post Breakfast Bling was served as well....
...and I was happy with the outcome.
I'm closing with a photo I shot showing how Race Directors will wind down and celebrate a successful race!
Needless to say, 'Zanna makes races fun for all!
Thanks for taking the time to read about one of my most fun races!
