Yeah, I ran happy today! The weather was gorgeous and running in your hometown where you know hundreds of people running and on the sidelines is just an awesome experience!!
Here's a picture of some of the people in my running group who ran this morning:
I'm ducking down so the person behind me can see, so I look short. I have on a white hat and black sports glasses. I'm slightly right of center toward the back. Martin is squatting in the front.
Nephew, Martin, is now a half marathoner. Woot! Woot!! I am so proud of him. We ran into the running trainer who helped us both in March and April of 2013. She couldn't believe how much weight he's lost. She called over her husband to see even and congratulate Martin on his Half marathon run and weight loss. He ran really strong the first 10 miles. We even skipped a couple walk breaks especially when they were downhill. He can run faster than I can uphill, although he says I pushed him to start too fast. Maybe. He kind of ran out of steam and walked most of the last 2 miles. We started with the 2:50 pace group, but passed the 2:40 pace group. I haven't downloaded our splits yet, but I know we did some 11:20 or better miles, but finished more like 15 minute miles.
My daughter saw us at 3 places along the route. She took a video and posted it to FaceBook, so I hope you can see it. I've got on a red shirt, white hat, black shorts and black compression socks. My race number was 970, not sure if it shows in the video or not. My pockets are full of junk including my phone, MP3 player, sweat rag, glasses defogger, Gu Chomps, etc. Martin has on a blue-green running shirt, blue shorts, and has a camelback backpack:
My niece completed her second half marathon, too, but not like she had hoped. She's pulled a tendon in her right foot. She walked most of it, but ran enough that she didn't have to move to the sidewalk. When I was finished, I walked back and walked in with her. She finished right around the 3 hour mark. Martin and I finished in 2:47. That did make me the number 5 finisher out of 5 in the 65-69 age group. Oh, well.
Now 4 weeks from today is my next half marathon. I'll be running with my niece who we expect to be healed by then. Can't wait!!
Edit: the FaceBook link works for me, but I wonder about privacy settings and whether my SparkFriends will be able to see it. Let me know. Thanks.
Edit 2: As an unintended but good consequence I have picked up 2 FaceBook friends. Evidently, you have to be a friend to view the video. I can use all the friends I can get!!
