Got up early this morning, did some laundry, and gave one of my dogs a bath. Enjoyed some Spark time. Then, I decided to take my beautiful boy, Justice, for a walk in the park.
It was sunny and very windy, with a little chill in the air -- just like Autumn's supposed to be. The sun was reflecting off the beautiful Fall leaves and the wind was blowing some of them through the air as if they were dancing. Others were fluttering on the trees, hanging on as if their lives depended upon it, making a wonderful "ssshhhhhussshhing" sound.
It was nice walking in the park because there weren't a lot of loud/running children, bikes, or skateboards (I love the park when the kids are in school) and it was quiet. That meant we could see the wildlife. Right away I saw four deer, not too far off, in the woods, all peeking out at several of us 2-leggers with our camera phones. Justice was GREAT! He just sat by my side, cool as a cucumber; he didn't lunge toward the deer or bark at them to frighten them away. He's the BEST walking buddy EVER!
Justice and I walked about 2.5 miles today. It was my longest workout yet, as well as my best. I tried to walked as fast as I could, but the hills slowed me down a little once I hit them and, boy, did they make my legs hurt! And that's a good thing!
About a mile into our walk, I spotted another deer -- a young buck -- standing in the trees, off to our right, near the entrance to the park. Justice and I stopped walking and stood still. The deer hesitated for a second then just walked straight toward us, across the lawn, the drive, and the path in front of us, not more than 6 or 8 feet away. He went into the woods to our left and, as we continued walking, he mirrored us for about 20 feet before he stopped to graze. He was very sweet and even let me snap some pics with my camera phone. They didn't come out very well, so now I'm anxious to head back with my "real" camera on Monday. I'm going to wait till then to try to get some good shots because I figure the park will be more crowded and noisy on Saturday when folks are off from work and school.
Here are some of the pics I took with my phone today:
Time to get myself some dinner. Planning to have some of the leftover tuna casserole (Spark Recipe) that I made last night. Then, my final trick of the day will be to keep my mouth shut during my usual evening snack-fest so I don't go over my calories again. Wish me luck!
And, remember . . .
Don't Give Up!
