Something in my house.... help

Saturday, November 01, 2014

A few days back, when I got home my curtains were down on one window of my bedroom. I knew that my younger cat had done it. {The older one sleeps a LOT}. I figured she was chasing a gnat. She goes nuts over the littlest bug. That afternoon I was in a chair reading in my bedroom. My younger cat is on my bed and nightstand going nuts. She was on the bed, on the floor, jumping around like crazy. Again, I am thinking a gnat. I have seen her go crazy like that and usually when I get up to check on her, it has been a teeny tiny bug.

So, today I am reading the paper while sitting on my bed. I had thrown some of the paper on the floor by my bed. All of a sudden my little girl cat is going nuts around that pile of newspapers. I looked over to see the papers moving. Scared me. I thought it might be a snake. {you never know}.
I looked over to see a green Gecko about 6" long.

My cat would catch it, then it would get away. She did that a few times. I tried to get it with a plastic trash pail, but that did not work either.

A couple of days back I had gotten a baby Gecko out of the house {about 2" long}. Did not think much about it, until I saw the Mamma Gecko. They usually hatch 2 eggs at a time. Now I am wondering where the other baby is.

I read online that they can live maybe 2 weeks without food. It won't get much of the kind of food it needs in here.

The thing is, I don't want to be cleaning out my closet 2 years from now and find a mummified Gecko.

I also don't want that thing crawling on me at night.

Can I fix this situation? Or do I have to wait until they....... you know.

I live in Central Texas. We consider a gecko population good luck. they eat the pesky bugs suck as Spiders, Ants, Mosquitoes, Gnats, and Fly's. But I understand the ick factor. Good luck!!

I would totally freak out if there was a gecko (or snake) in my house. We had a tree frog one day and my daughter and I were both screaming. DD caught it and took it outside but we are much more mindful of how long we leave the doors open now.

We used to love geckos when we were in Hawaii. In condo blocks you get a lot of roaches and the geckos live on them. :)

I love your blog. Sorry about you having to worry though. I wonder if there is some way to set up a little trap so you could help the little guy make it outside.

I found a snake in the house last year. Then thought I had found a second snake and freaked out so called my husband. I guess he took me serious because next thing I know the doorbell rang from a policeman who said animal control was on their way! Wow, I know I hadn't screamed THAT loud so it had to have been my husband calling them. They did catch the snake and it looked embarrassingly small in the bucket. We decided that I had seen the same snake in different rooms.

So, I hope I made you laugh during your time of gecko stress. Your kitty will let you know when the gecko appears again and if it begins to smell, borrow someones beagle dog. They can find anything!

Hi Brenda, I would be scared of a Gecko but do think one of my sons had one for a pet, believe it or not. It's good that you at least found out what was going on with your cats trying to catch it. Good Luck in your unique problem of scouring for another little critter. You described so well here I got a few goose bumps, what a scarety cat.

When we were stationed in Spain, gecko were welcome in the house as they each any kind of bug they find. I would come across one by accident and have the stuffing scared out of me. I don't know if the ones in the States are the same kind. I'm all for anything that eats bugs. I need to find something that eats spiders!!
    Good Luck! emoticon emoticon
