Pre-SPICE challenge

Thursday, October 30, 2014

Couple of updates since my last "crazy blog".

1. Initial 12 week challenge with an actual cash prize did not go well. But now I know, I'm not going to really lose, or atleast not enough to "compete" during training for a half marathon.

2. My 11 mile run this past weekend didn't happen. I mean it kinda did. I went, I started my return journey about a half mile early. I did 10 miles instead of 11. Also the second half, I didn't run all of it. I hadn't done a long run in a few weeks, so I'm not surprised.

So.. this week. I did four miles on Monday. I felt miserable. I somehow hurt my hip, or maybe my hip is just tired. either way, I was in pain, so didn't run the whole thing. Last night, was much better though. I had six miles to run, and I did the whole thing. I was a bit slower, but I did it. I have 10 miles to do this weekend, and after last night, I'm feeling much better about it.

Tomorrow the San Antonio SparkTeam kicks off our SPICE challenge. We did this challenge about 2 or 3 years ago, and it was very successful. I'm really looking forward to it.

Part of the sign up is writting down how much weight you'd like to lose during the challenge. I initially put about 15 pounds, because that's how much I need to lose to be in the BMI "overweight" weight range. Right now I'm still in "obese". Well, after some reflection I'm going to have to decide to be happy and pleased with a much lower number. Since my HM isn't until the first week in December and even after that you're supposed to wait about 2 weeks or so to really let your body re-coup before you start running again. I can walk or use my eliptical during those two weeks, but I don't think I'll be doing anything particularly "fast". On the other hand, my eating habits should go back to normal! haha So, after I post this, I'm going to put some thought into a more realistic goal for myself and edit my sign up.

I am just so impressed with your running that you may not be feeling like you're the best without the 11 miles but I sure do! I hope your hip feels better, seems like you're still really pushing it though! :)

    1) I totally forgot you had signed up with that $ lose wt thing. And it was quite the pot of cashola too. Sorry you're not going to win it. But you have a good reason. Personally, I think getting to your HM IS the win.

    2) You're still running a lot (at least to me). I'm hoping your hip feels better. And while you don't want to slip on your training, listen to your body too ok. There's that ol difference between discomfort due to pushing ... and pain. (Man, lookit me being all parental and stuffs. I must have on my "I'm a responsible adult" costume since it's Halloween.)

    3) You actually didn't label your number 3 item. And I should dock you a few points for that. But ... it's Halloween as mentioned, and your background page is awesome. So I'll just say ... goooo SPICE challenge!
