Run With The Zombies 5k

Saturday, October 25, 2014

I did it! I ran the whole 5k. No stopping. No walking. Slow and steady got me to the end in 48 mins.

Woke up around 6:45a. It's raining. Now, it hasn't rained in in like 7 months but the morning of my 5k it's raining. Figures, right? LOL.

Take a shower, get dressed and collect my gear: iphone, earbuds, armband, water, towel and umbrella.

I took myself to Panera Bread to fuel up. I love their breakfast sandwiches and figured I would be burning off most of the calories in a few minutes anyway.

I headed over the race, found a really good parking space and walked to the starting line. There was a decent turn out and quite a few people dressed up as zombies. I got there right at the end of the costume contest. They had people line up according to the speed you planned to run at. I parked myself at the end of the line with the strollers. :)

The race started and i figured that I was up to 20 mins without stopping on my C25k training so I would shoot for going at least that long before taking a walk break. The route was on city streets at first so there was plenty of room for everyone and I got passed - a lot.

That's ok. I kept chuggin'.

They had lots of volunteers around cheering everyone on which was nice. My app announced 1 mi down and I still felt good and so I decided to just keep going a bit more.

My C25k app told me to "walk now" and then a minute later to "cool down" but I kept going.

My Nike Run app told me we were at the 2 mi marker and I figured, "One more mile. I can do that. " so I just kept going.

Let me tell you, I swear that last mile felt more like 3 all by itself! At one point I thought I was going to have to stop, but I just kept telling myself, "go a little bit farther and then see how you feel".

Then I could see the finish line and at that point pure stubbornness and the desire to be able to tell you all that I ran the whole thing without stopping kicked in. There was no way I was going to stop. I was going to run through the finish line if it killed me.

Well, I am happy to say I am alive and well and feeling very studly. :) I ran for 48 mins. without stopping. That's 28 mins LONGER then I have ever run. I wasn't first by any stretch but I wasn't last either. I am super proud of myself. :)
