Going out to eat... Any suggestions?

I have a hard time when I go out to eat. I always seem to over eat. What do you guys do when you go out? How do you control your portion control?

On a positive note, I am going to spin class tonight again.

    I too will look for nutrition info, or at least the menu, online before going. Remember creamy salad dressings are calorie hogs. (I dip my fork into the dressing, then the salad) I also try to remember that the salad and dressing is not what I'm there for so I only eat 6-7 bites to "save room" for the good stuff. But if you like vinaigrette then order that, and then try to eat at least half your salad so you are filling up on veggies that have very few calories.
    I like to order fresh/steamed veggies as a side and I eat them first. Then I will start to eat my other items that are higher in calories. emoticon
    Another thing you can do is split your entree in half as soon as you get it. You can even ask for a to-go box and box it up right away. That way you don't accidentally eat more than you want to.
    Always stick with water to drink! (I started doing this before I was calorie conscious because flavored drinks filled me up faster than water.)
    Try to eat slower than usual. Pay attention to the flavor of each bite. Assume you will be full before your food is gone. And do a mental check as you eat your entree so you know when to stop eating.

    I check out the restaurant menu to see what I can eat without doing harm to my
    eating habits. I t is always good to check withe server as to how your meal is cooked
    and ask for adjustments if possible,also if you order a salad ask for the dressing on the side.And it helps if you have a snack before you go out dinner...
    Watch your alcohol intake too...

    If possible, I go online and look up the nutritional information on the menu items so I know exactly what I am eating BEFORE I eat it - but that isn't always possible. When not - I try to stick with a chicken breast, small steak or salmon with no sauces - just grilled and a veggie or baked potato. I know that will work in my calorie count for the day. Be careful when ordering salads, I find that they can hide lots of calories in what I think are healthy choices! Good luck and enjoy!!!
