Four week Dietbet recap:

I found out about and decided to sign up for a 4 week and a 6 month diet bet. Since they started at the same time I figured that I would be well on my way for the 6 month bet so I might as well sign-up for both at the same time and let the work count for both.

4 week bet is 4% of your body weight, buy-in $30. For me it was 10.1 lbs
6 month bet is 10% of your body weight, buy-in is $125. For me it will be 25.1 lbs

The 4 week bet just ended and I am happy to say I made my weight and won $46.65. So I made my initial buy-in money back plus $16.65.

My impressions:

I found it surprisingly effective at keeping me motivated and on track. The bet was on my mind every time I made a food choice. Because the bet is so short and the weight-loss % is so aggressive, you really can't slack off at all. I have never thought of myself as a super competitive person but I really wanted to be a "winner" when the time was up. It wasn't really about the money however that definitely played a part, there is a definite "put up or shut up" vibe going in my head with real cash on the line. :) Mostly, I wanted to prove I could do it.

That last week was kinda stressful as I was not sure I would make the weight. I was so close but as we all know you can do everything right and still not show a loss at the end of the week. I was .5 lbs from a win the day before weight-in. The next morning I got on the scale and it showed 242.0. Ugh! Seriously?! I needed 241.9. I got on and off a few times, the numbers flickering between winning and losing. I went to the bathroom. I took off my pants, I took off my shirt... Voila! 241.2!! YES!!! :) Whew! That woulda sucked to lose by .1 of a lb!

I might do another 4 week bet, maybe in November. October is my birthday month and I dont want to have to so strict when I have my bday dinner. :)

All in all I think it was a good experience and I will probably do it again. Plus the 6 month bet is still going and they have monthly weight-ins with prizes to keep you on track. I'll let you guys know how that goes too.

Wow, I never thought about making a bet to see if I would lose weight. What or who got you started doing that? I had two weeks where my scale didn't move at all, If I lost money my husband would have a hissy-fit that in itself would be plenty to keep me motivated.

I wanted to do a charity walkathon but I have yet to find any in my area so I'm still pushing myself very hard and "pretending" like that's what I'm training for. I am with Holthanthou (D.) spend that $16.00 on something just for you, something that you otherwise for whatever reason would not have bought.

Congratulations hon on winning the bet and losing the weight.
You must be feeling very good about yourself right now and so you should.
When I went away at the beginning of the month I knew I had 9 days to really work out because my daughter had the elliptical and the streets in Brantford are nice and hilly for running.

I was determined to lose at least two pounds so I worked it really hard and double what I do at home. I lost 4 pounds that week I was away. Next time when you have to weigh in, a few days before really work your fitness program to the limit and you should see a good drop in weight to make your goal.

Good luck with the 6 month bet. You can do it kiddo. Hope you are still running.

I'm so glad you made your weigh in!! emoticon I was hesitant to suggest the carb cutting, but you know what they say about desperate times. emoticon

The reason I was hesitant is because if you're used to eating starches (breads and other grainy stuff), and then you cut them completely out, it's not uncommon to go through what they call the 'low carb flu'. Which means that basically you might feel like sh!t for a week or two, sometimes up to a month, but once that's over usually you have more energy than ever. At least you know about it if in the future you find that your numbers are a little high when it's close to weighing in again. emoticon

So you're making a few extra bucks! You know what that means? Time to go clothes shopping!! emoticon

I hope you spend that $16 on something completely frivolous and self-indulgent, like a really swanky bath-bomb or something.
