This summer's vacation was a group tour call Ed The Arctic Circle with Globus tours. Started out with delays in Boston because the plane we were scheduled to fly out on had struck a flock of birds while landing. I knew it was going to be a long wait when the staff started bringing out carts of snacks and soft drinks. They announced the engine was being inspected with fiber optics and our takeoff would be over an hour late. My attitude was " take all the time you need, getting there safely is more important than cutting corners trying to be on time and botching the job" Finally they announced there was no damage but the engine cowling had to be glued back on, and the glue would take two more hours to set. More snacks appeared to sooth the restless passengers. The delay ate up the four hours we had planned between flights. When we got to Amsterdam we were told to see the transfer desk. They rebooked us on the next flight to Stockholm two hours later, and gave us each a ten Euro food voucher, enough to buy a sandwich, cup of coffee and a bag of M&M's. By the time we got to Stockholm airport our included transfer had left hours ago. We had phoned from Amsterdam to let the guide know we miss the pickup, and we're told to get a cab and we would be reimbursed. Finally got to the hotel just as the welcome meeting was starting. Nice buffet at the hotel, the straight to bed, hadn't slept in about 36 hours. Next day bus ride around the city stopping at the city hall where the Nobel prizes are awarded, there was a cultural festival going on all over the city, so the bus had to keep detouring. An opera performance blocking the square, a stage set up for a play blocking a bridge. We went to the Wasa ship museum, very interesting.
