I'm Alive!

Tuesday, October 07, 2014

I'm still alive and well, I promise! ;) I know it has been a VERY long time since I last blogged and even signed on to Sparkpeople. Planning a wedding, taking care of my uncle, house work, and an unpredictable work schedule has really taken up a huge chunk of my time so I'm not on Sparkpeople as much as I'd love to. Also exercise has been taking up a chunk of time as well since I try my best to get as much exercise as I can without being worn out.

A lot has happened over the course of the past month... My maid of honor flew in from Seattle and we were able to pick out the dress with one of my bridesmaids! The dress looked great on both girls and yesterday I had another bridesmaid get fitted in the dress and it looked good on her too! I have 2 more bridesmaids to get fitted and have their dresses ordered. It was such a great weekend when my maid of honor was here visiting! We went out to lunch, went to a bunch of different shops to try on clothes, picked out my outfit for my engagement photos that are going to be later this month, and she got to dry on bridesmaid dresses.

When my maid of honor and I went to David's Bridal we went to alterations first so I could try on my dress and see what would need to be done in terms of alterations... let's just say my experience was horrible! The alterations woman had me lift my arms up so see the top of the dress and she said "Oh my goodness look at your flabby arms! There's so much skin." she had me take the dress off and put me in a size 12 to see if it would work better than the size 10 that was ordered. While I was changing she was talking to my maid of honor and told her "you know there's a lot of exercises she can do to fix those arms." Really?! I instantly became pissed off! We were able to have the store order a size 12 and I will need to have it taken in and add a bustle which would be $160.00. We walked out to my maid of honor's car to put stuff away so we could get ready for the bridesmaid dress appointment and I began to cry. I never felt so hurt, belittled, humiliated, and embarrassed in my entire life!

A few days later I was able to calm down and wrote David's Bridal and message on Facebook and was contacted by the district manager who offered me 20% back to my debit card for what happened. She e-mailed me the next day to apologize again and told me the dress was on sale right now so she gave me the sales price as well as a discount for what I went through. I ended up with $316.11 back! That will pay for the alterations, my flower girl's dress, and my fiance's sister's bridesmaid dress. All in all I am happy with the end result but it still left a bad taste in my mouth. It was definitely something I never would have expected and I was so shocked that it happened.

Overall I've been doing well! We did a cater tasting that went really well so I will be signing the contract today and dropping off the down payment this week. They offered me a 5% discount for paying with cash so that is a savings in itself! Also the dj contract has been signed and a 50% deposit has been made. He gave me $100 off because he had forgotten he was going to match another dj's quote. So I am saving money left and right which is a huge help! Weddings truly are expensive! I'm trying my best to cut costs and keep cost down which has been sort of working. I lucked out and am getting a free engagement photo shoot from a friend of mine who is trying to build up her portfolio. We're doing a pumpkin patch theme with the pumpkins and hay bales! I got some stencils, white spray paint, and 4 pumpkins so we can paint "I do May 31st 2015" on them. It'll be sooo cute!

You are loved, you are cherished, you are physically beautiful, your mother( and I am mother to 6 adult children so have earned the right to say each of these lovely things about you) would be, and I am too, Sooo PROUD of you and the accomplishments that you have made in conquering your obesity and improving your health and strength. You have a wonderful future ahead of you.dont focus on the hurtful words some people speak but rather all the wonderful remarks people speak. Most of us here at Spark people have had those ugly things said to us at one time or another so that's why we encourage each other with GOOD things. You Are really lovely, in fact you are Gorgeous! Outrageously Beautiful!Spectaculalry pretty, a real beauty. Your arms are lovely and graceful, they are made for holding your loved ones close so they are very special arms which show your love for others.

I can't believe anyone in business working with the public would say such a thing! I'm wondering if she still has a job or if they are taking it out of her pay check?
Anyway, I'm so glad it's all coming together and you're catching some nice deserved breaks.
Make sure you post an engagement picture on here. I'd love to see it. I'm so happy and excited for you honey!! And I have missed seeing you on here. But, I also know know how hectic things get. emoticon

Umm has anyone thought that your arms arent flabby - but that's all loose skin from the exercise you have been doing. Those arent bat wings - they are victory ribbons! Good for you for speaking up for yourself.

One of my favorite ways to save money was by ordering my flowers through the supermarket. They were lovely and half the price of a traditional florist.

How awful to have to have that experience - but at least the store manager did his/her best to make it as right as they could. You can't take back those hurtful words and unfortunately, that will be what you remember most about that place!

Best of wishes with that wedding and keep sparking!!! emoticon

wow, what a horrible saleswoman. It's NONE of her business what your body or anyone elses looks like. She doesn't know what you've been through and how hard you've worked to get where you are! Ignorant. When I tried on my wedding dress with my maid of honor, the saleswoman found out I was pregnant (literally only 2 weeks pregnant) and she said "OOOH wow, you are already showing!!"
It made me so mad, I was in tears. and it was Davids Bridal too. They need to train their associates a little better in my opinion.
Anyways, I'm so glad you're saving money! This will take so much stress off your day. Enjoy this time, you are making memories that will last forever!

I am so proud of you that you let the bridal shop know what happened. The manager really stepped up to help smooth things over but a hurt like that can never really be completely removed. That tailor really needs to be taken to task by management. That should never happen to anyone. She should be so ashamed. Her mouth was way ahead of her head. Obviously, her opinions aren't worth anything. She was just dumb.

Your plans sound so lovely. There is so much to do to plan a wedding. Be sure to take photos whenever you go to tastings, the florist or whatever. Remembering the planning is wonderful.
