On MONDAY, Sep 22 I did the Hooters DBL (Du it Before Lunch) Duathlon! A local Race Director & close friend came up with an idea and went for it. Have a Duathlon on a Monday and see who shows up! Over 100 athletes showed up at 6:00am at Ft DeSoto, Fl.
My Dear Friend, Race Director & Multisport Cheerleader Extraordinaire, Suzanne!
At Packet Pickup!
I got up at 4:45am, Monday morning, got my gear, my bike, and my insanity into my SUV and headed to Ft DeSoto. Pulled into the Du site and it was dark and rainy...not giving it a second thought, I racked my bike
then waited out the few rain clouds & lightning in the car.
Our horses were ready...
...there was a finish line needing to be owned and we were ready to rock it!
A last minute briefing...
...and we were off on our first run!
I felt pretty good considering I looked like I'd been dropped off at race site by an EMT truck!
Came into Transition, hopped on my ride, and knocked off the 10 mile run of the peninsula!
When I dismounted my bike & hit my last Transition, I felt the pain! I started out on the final run. Two of my friends, who had just completed the 2nd run, (Both Elite Triathletes), came up to me! Tony said he was running with me. Nick, CEO of the Best Damn Race Series, went and got me a bottle of water.
This is the quality of friends I have in the best athlete community I've ever been associated with!
Tony, who I swim & run train with, (we're also co-conspirators at post training parties!) was my "Wingman" on this last run. I love this shot!
After the race, Joette, Co-owner of RunVie Racing & International Duathlete/Triathlete, came up to me and said, "Monty, we gotta do a selfie!'
I'm the biggest fan of RunVie who isn't a RunVie team member!
This is the most appropriate post-race Hooters party shot!
Yeah! Awesome bling!
I'd do it again tomorrow in a heartbeat!
Thanks and keep embracing those challenges!
