I'm Feeling Accomplished

Saturday, October 04, 2014

I am feeling pretty good about myself. This morning I participated in the Fayetteville-Cumberland Metric Century bicycle ride. It was a ride I scheduled to do since participating in it for the first time last year. The ride offered 3 options: 12 mile route (family ride) 30 miles and 64 miles. Last year I signed up to for the 30 mile ride, I had only been riding 3 ½ months and I was proud of my accomplishment for finishing.

Well on to this year. I didn’t’ think I was going to be able to ride because Injured my knee in May and I’ve been trying to recover. I’ve not been able to train as I would like so I was a bit discouraged about participating; but I had already registered. I knew I would have friends there to support so I packed up with the intentions to ride.

Needless to say, one of my cycling friends said let’s give it a try as she’s been in the same situation and if we need to we can always turn back or catch the SAG wagon. To make a long story short we took the 30 mile route, completed it and I managed to shave 17 minutes off my time from last year. Wow, go me; I am so excited; I’m ready for the next challenge; at least that’s how I feel right now.

It’s so rewarding to finish something, especially when you’ve doubted yourself and perhaps others have not supported you as you would like them to. I must admit I have great support, I was just doubted my abilities or at least scared due to the lack of training. Maybe next year I’ll be prepared enough to tackle the 64 mile option, we will just have to wait and see.

Two weeks ago I signed up for the Bike Like a Nut bicycle ride. This will probably be my last organized charity event for this year. It will be time to settle in for winter training. I’m hoping I will feel as good about that one as I do about this was once it’s done!

Keep setting goals and holding yourself accountable to them. That is the only way we’re going to make progress. Today I can truly say, “I’m feeling Accomplished!”
