YaY!! I did it!! Completed the Quad Cities Half Marathon!!

I trained for it and I was ready!! Of course, things don't always go as planned when it comes to the weather. We all know how cool it has been this summer, so most of my training runs were done under the best weather circumstances, nice and cool! Well, wouldn't you know, the day of the race, the temp rose to 80+ degrees during the race!!! My goal was to complete it in less than 3 hours, meaning 2:59 would have been great. I finished in 3 hours and 5 minutes. And I was so happy to have done so!!! I started the race a little bit anxious but was able to calm down after telling myself that I was running for enjoyment and I would finish when I finish. That helped tremendously. Not saying I had the time of my life, there's a lots of hills on this course, including one at the 13th mile (damn them!) but I talked to other runners along the way, took a few pics on my camera phone during my walk breaks and just enjoyed the run. My friend is already suggesting doing another half on Oct. 18th and then begin training to do a stair run (550 stairs) in February. She's crazy! Seriously, she really is, but I wouldn't do half the stuff I'm doing now if it were not for her! We need friends that will push us beyond what we thing we are capable of doing, but she needs to relax, for real! The first pic is me getting into race mode, or, as I like to call it, Beast Mode!!! Looking pretty good for a 60 yr old, if I say so myself!!! I'll post one of me after the race and some of the beautiful scenery as soon as I can figure out how to transfer them from my phone.

and just for laughs:

emoticon emoticon Deb!!!!... that is so cool!

I have thought about running and have not made the plunge yet. It is an exciting prospect and I am trying to find a group near where I live that I can train with.

You look emoticon emoticon ... 60 years old is not old, you represent what 60 should and does look like in this day and age.

Keep up the good work... look forward to following your next challenge! emoticon

Congratulations! You inspire me - I'm doing a half-marathon in Phoenix on 1/18/15. My goal is to complete it in less than 4 hours (ok, its a requirement as well). This is a first for me. I will be walking about 99%. Keep up the great work. You totally rock! Your 60 is the new 30!!!

Way to go, especially considering the heat! I type this as I'm waiting for it to cool off a little so I can go for a run this evening. We've been spoiled with this cool weather for training - LOL. My half is on Novmeber 9th, so I am anticipating cool, if not cold, weather. Hoping it's not sleeting! Keep it up and post some more pics!
