Overcome: Hymn, Prayer and Scriptures

Sunday, September 28, 2014

This weeks Church bulletin I felt led to do the theme of overcoming. We all need to overcome something, especially those of us struggling to be more healthy. We need to overcome our food addictions or bad habits.

Below is a hymn I found on overcoming, the prayer of agreement for the week for the bulletin and the scriptures that go with the prayer. May this bless you.

Lord, You have called us to be overcomers. Jesus, your word says that we will face tribulation in this life, that we will be persecuted. But, Lord, your word also promises that we will overcome. Lord, your word promises us that you will never leave us nor forsake us. Lord, help us to know that you will give us the words to say, you will give us the strength to get through it. Jesus, help us to lift up our head as our redemption draweth nigh, Lord help us to look toward the hills from where our help comes. Lord help us to know that nothing is going to separate us from you. Lord, help us to persevere under trial that we may receive the crown of life. Lord Help us to overcome and keep your works until the end that we may have power over the nations. We ask all of this in your precious name Jesus. (Taken from John 15:18, Matthew 5:10, Hebrews 13:5, Psalm 121, Luke 21:15, Luke 21:28, Romans 8:35, James 1:12, Rev 2:26)

John 15:18
18 If the world hate you, ye know that it hated me before it hated you.

Matthew 5:10
10 Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness' sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

Hebrews 13:5
5 Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.

Psalm 121
121 I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help.
2 My help cometh from the LORD, which made heaven and earth.
3 He will not suffer thy foot to be moved: he that keepeth thee will not slumber.
4 Behold, he that keepeth Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep.
5 The LORD is thy keeper: the LORD is thy shade upon thy right hand.
6 The sun shall not smite thee by day, nor the moon by night.
7 The LORD shall preserve thee from all evil: he shall preserve thy soul.
8 The LORD shall preserve thy going out and thy coming in from this time forth, and even for evermore.

Luke 21:15
15 For I will give you a mouth and wisdom, which all your adversaries shall not be able to gainsay nor resist.

Luke 21:28
28 And when these things begin to come to pass, then look up, and lift up your heads; for your redemption draweth nigh.

Romans 8:35
35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?

James 1:12
12 Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him

Revelation 2:26
26 And he that overcometh, and keepeth my works unto the end, to him will I give power over the nations:

This world is one great battlefield
With forces all arrayed,
If in my heart I do not yield
I’ll overcome some day.
I’ll overcome some day,
I’ll overcome some day,
If in my heart I do not yield,
I’ll overcome some day.

Both seen and unseen powers join
To drive my soul astray,
But with His Word a sword of mine,
I’ll overcome some day.
I’ll overcome some day,
I’ll overcome some day,
But with His Word a sword of mine,
I’ll overcome some day.

A thousand snares are set for me,
And mountains in my way,
If Jesus will my leader be,
I’ll overcome some day.
I’ll overcome some day,
I’ll overcome some day,
If Jesus will my leader be,
I’ll overcome some day.

I fail so often when I try
My Savior to obey;
It pains my heart and then I cry,
Lord, make me strong some day.
Lord, make me strong some day,
Lord, make me strong some day;
It pains my heart and then I cry,
Lord, make me strong some day.

My mind is not to do the wrong,
But walk the narrow way;
I’m praying as I journey on,
To overcome some day.
To overcome some day,
To overcome some day;
I’m praying as I journey on,
To overcome some day.

Though many a time no signs appear,
Of answer when I pray;
My Jesus says I need not fear,
He’ll make it plain some day.
I’ll be like Him some day,
I’ll be like Him some day;
My Jesus says I need not fear,
He’ll make it plain some day.
