Alternate Exercises - Suggestions Requested

Since I've injured my left foot, the doctor has restricted me from doing any exercises that require me to put any pressure on my foot. Basically that leaves me with swimming, which I can do at the gym. I enjoyed my walk/run because it allowed me to do it any time any where, and I didn't need to go somewhere to do it.

Any suggestions I'm open to. I can tell you that I'm not getting my cardio in the same way that I was. I'm watching my food my diligently since my exercise is so limited. I'll go back to doc next week and possibly he'll release me to go back to my normal routine.

I would like to do a better job of my exercise. I thought maybe doing one of the walking programs with the t.v like walk away the pounds. Maybe that would be a softer touch on my foot.

Got my new sneakers that Doc recommend, they look like granny shoes. But I can tell the difference. New Balance 812. He says I have a high arch and I probably needed these all along. Even though I had good quality sneakers with support, I needed to something different.

Frustrated these past few weeks.

    Don't even do the walking in front of the TV. Instead, do chair exercises.

    You can work the upper body both aerobically and anaerobically. You can use weights. If you don't have weights, you can make your own. Take milk jugs and fill them with water. That's 8 pounds each. If too heavy, use less water.

    You can work the lower body by doing leg lifts in various motions. You don't have to touch the foot down, or you can touch it down very lightly. There are several videos on SparkPeople that show how to do these exercises. Do a search for low impact leg and core.

    I was going to suggest that as well, plus strength training.

    Have you check out the chair exercises? They can be challenging! Good luck.
