How Yoga is changing me

Sunday, September 14, 2014

Today my husband and I went to a political event (we live in Iowa, so there are plenty of political events.) This one was an annual steak fry that one of our senators sponsors. We were there to help support a PAC that is working for clean energy resources. After passing out fans, holding signs and watching all the press people, we sat around for a while. Although we had free tickets for the food.... somehow potato salad, beans and steak or chicken just didn't appeal... we left early. The crowds were too much for me.
I realize that my yoga practice is changing how my energy flows. My daily Adamantine practice requires that I concentrate on breath and postures and look inside for my motivation. I used to be what anyone would call an extrovert. I loved crowds, loved meeting people and was energized in such circumstances. Now those same circumstances drain me. I find myself energized by quiet, contemplative time in small groups or alone. I realize this isn't all yoga, I am sure some of it is my time of lfe... I am 69.
Wherever that changes are coming from, I am happy with them. I like where I am in my life, that I don't have to have others around me to feel alive and lively.

I have experienced the same shift. I used to love crowds; now I find them exhausting. My change came earlier in my life, but it sounds like we're at the same place now.

    Enjoy the peace!

I don't care for crowds and noise. I prefer the quiet.

Everyone changes and nothing is better than to accept those changes and welcome them.

It's great you and yours got out and did something, but maybe next time, it will just be walking together in a park or just being with each other and perhaps a smaller group of people.

I'm glad you posted. It's nice to know you're doing okay.

    Hugs.

I don't like crowds. That is probably why I hate Christmas shopping. I always thought I hated Christmas, but I think it is just the crowds, the commercialism, and I enjoyed it more when we had small ones. Maybe it is about getting older, I use to love going to the stores and going to the plaza when they light up the lights.

Very interesting blog! I have to think about this. I started out needing lots of quiet and alone time and am getting more so. No yoga here though. Maybe it is due to getting older. I am 64. I am kind of making myself be a little more social because I am withdrawing a little too much, it seems. I am forgetting how to be social......although I interact a lot on Spark! You know you're withdrawing when living in a cabin in Alaska starts looking good.!

I totally understand how you feel. I so enjoy my alone time, and I definitely do not care for large crowds. I usually (almost ALWAYS) avoid any kind of activity that is packed with people. Small groups are the best or even being alone.

I SO relate! Seeking more peace and less chaos these days myself. And healthy choices for food really are important to me. Thank you for sharing. emoticon
