Re... calculating

Does the voice on your GPS say that (with a rather disgruntled pause after the "re") when you don't follow her instructions to the letter?

Spark People is sort of like that. I've been sparking for 3 1/2 years and have lost and kept off 27 lbs. so far. My goal is to lose another 15. My doctor is pleased that my cholesterol numbers are better and I no longer use my puffers. I shop, cook and eat differently, and at age 70 I've become an exerciser. I'm doing a virtual walk the length of Britain and have walked more than 750 miles so far this year. When the community pool opens in September, i am adding twice-weekly swimming to my cardio exercises.

But my point is that, on this 3 1/2 year journey, I've recalculated and switched things around many times. I change my exercises every couple of months, adding new exercises and even different pieces of equipment to my home gym. The most recent is a 5 lb. kettle bell. A stability ball comes next. Using recipes from the Spark cookbook, I've tried new fruits and vegetables, new whole grain pastas and new seasonings.

I've been re-reading Spark motivation articles over the past few days, and am re-charged and excited for the next part of my journey. As always, I will be looking for the support, encouragement, and yes, the challenges when I get off track, of my wonderful Spark friends, old and new. Without you, I would never have made it this far.

    You have just put in writing why you are my "Go-To-Girl" when I get discouraged. I just look at what you have accomplished and what you are doing in all areas, and it motivates me to want to be "Just Like YOU!!!"

    What great achievements you have made. I am so very very lucky to have you as a "Spark Friend". Thankfully we are able to "Re-Calculate" our journeys. Since life is a never ending work in progress, we will always need to be making 'new' adjustments to our life-style.

    What a great blog Gail! It is really great that you have had so much success, and that you keep things fresh and exciting. I am really enjoying re-reading many articles and trying new exercises (I admit most of my new exercises have been added by the physiotherapist, but it is making a difference!)

    p.s. Thanks for your comment on my blog. I laughed when I read "Tomato Falls". We have MANY placed named Tumalo, which apparently means "place with big rocks" in the local Native American language. That also makes me laugh a bit, because "place with big rocks" could describe literally hundreds of locations here.
