Summer 2014 is coming to an end.
The unwritten rule is after Labor day, summer 's over.
It probably seems like that. With kids back in school. Most summer vacations over.
It's really the time I like to vacation. Crowds down and weather comfortable. The extreme hot season passed. But all likely hood i'll stay close to home.
Not as interested in flying anywhere these days. Too complicated.
Wouldn't mind taking a train trip.
When I was in grade school the teacher on first day had us stand up and tell how we spent our summers.
I went to a small country grade school. They could do things like that back then.
Counting all four grades there were probably 24 children.
Most kids talked about what was happening on the farm. The swimming hole. catching bugs. maybe a trip to Grandparents.
I got to tell of a train trip to Nebraska to visit relatives with my sister and Grandmother. We rode for three days, had a sleeping car and told of all the buffalo and animals we saw. And the rattlesnake hunt we went on. Oh the boys were interested in that. The girls not so much.
And of course the country fair, but the biggest and best was and still is the State Fair. All the rides and food and carnival games. .
Living in the State capital, we have a big State Fair, started yesterday, runs through Labor Day.
Back in my days, the State Fair was even bigger and better then it is now. Of course back when I was a child everything seemed bigger and better.
My friend and I are planning to go next week. Maybe catch who's performing, all depends.
We like to walk around see the animals, eat some (Once a year) fair food. Usually split some over fried, no nutritional valued, loaded with empty calorie food. Oh well what can I say, It's the fair.
I missed out this year , by not knowing the added category of contests. "The Bling Contest.". You know I love my bling. I have or can create a very over the top bling item. Next year, if the good Lord is willing, I will enter that. think ,might enter the chocolate cake contest. I'll keep you informed. Smile!!
This summer I planted a container garden, have it crowded on my patio. I plan on planting more next year. Can move the small dog fence out a few feet and make more room.
I want more Japanese eggplants. Only have two this year and it's not enough. I realized one cuke plant is enough. I'm not making pickles, so don't need too many cukes.. Tomatoes are good. I have cherry and Early Girls. Need more peppers. Plant some real hot ones. And of course all the herbs. Always plant some flowers. They attract the bees, who pollinate the veggies.
I though with all the hot weather the tomatoes would ripen too fast. But just read tomatoes ripen best at 70 to 75 degrees. Too hot they don't. So with the temps getting cooler, looks like I'll have plenty of tomatoes. I have zucchini everyday. But still plant a few more next year. try for some butternut squash too.
It is work to have a garden, but the rewards, the fresh food, can't get any fresher, is worth it.
I wrote earlier about the Art Fair. Posted some of my jewelry. Well I have been working on more, here's a few of the latest.
I loaded these photos on the computer, did a sideshow and they looked pretty good. One a little out of focus. But when I loaded on to Spark they seem dark. I might have to get a new camera, or set up some better lighting. I need good photos for Etsy, and my jewelry page, Panache Designs by Tisha. Will be up soon.
Busy writing descriptions on all pieces. I loaded these on to my photo page too, can see larger images there.
Leaving for a Italian Festival today. plan on doing a lot of walking. maybe a little eating too. Then we will drive to the coast for a few days. Friends doing the Hood to Coast race and they will be staying, big outdoor party tomorrow. Hope the coast weather is reasonably nice.
The dogs are clamoring to go. But will stay home till we leave for the coast. then they can run on the sand. So much fun.
All in all the summer has been pretty good. Weather beautiful, if not a little too hot for me. Don't know what happened to the "Original California Golden Girl", used to worship the sun. If I didn't lay out an tan I didn't want to be seen. But now it's A/C and shade. Not sure if it's age or I'm wiser now. Smile!1
Take care everyone.
Enjoy the rest of summer.
I'm going to try, but looking forward to getting out my Fall clothes. Do a Fall Thrift Fashion blog as soon as Fall arrives.
Peace and Love,
Tisha
