Getting back on track after gaining back 12 pounds

I've maintained 120 pounds of the 130+ pounds that I initially lost, which is great, but within the past 5 months I just put on 12 pounds. Argh!

Analysis:

1. Foot injury - I injured my foot (and it's still not back to normal even after many months). I need to let go of thinking I can do the same exercises as before and come up with different ones that I'll enjoy.

2. Unexpected death in family and an unexpected medical crisis - Threw me off for a bit. I've recovered from those.

3. Work stress - I have new responsibilities, which is awesome, but which is also more stressful. I need to make time for stress reduction.

Plan:

1. Get back in contact with my diet coach (in progress).

2. Make new exercise plan based on foot injury. I've never done weight training (ok, I know I 'should' be doing it, but just never stuck with it) and muscle building exercises, so come up with a plan for that (maybe some SP videos).

3. Come up with stress reduction plan (daily and weekly, perhaps). I'm considering yoga.

4. Come up with a plan to not eat at night (my personal rule is not to eat anything after 7PM, except for 1 cup of soymilk, which I have in tea.

    I am kind of right there with you in terms of the stress levels. My Mom is really ill, I got laid off in January and haven't found a job because I have been traveling to/from Michigan to help with her, and when I finally got back home in early July and was ready to really start working hard to find a job, I fell and broke my ankle. I can't run to relieve the stress - heck I can't even drive to get out of the house, and I've put on 5 lbs in 6 weeks.

    A few weeks ago I decided to try meditation - it's free, it doesn't take much time out of your day, and you can do it any time! I Googled "how to meditate" and read a bit on how to do it, and then went to You Tube and searched on meditation for stress. You will be surprised how much is out there. It's better to listen to the music with headphones because some of the music has a beat/rhythm behind it that helps put you in a meditative state. The only problem I found is that the meditation music puts me to sleep, but I was meditating at the end of the day and laying down. I need to try it earlier in the day and sitting up.

    Good luck with your Getting Back On Track plan. That is the basis of being successful - creating a plan and following it.

    Sounds like you have a lot going on and I can imagine you are disappointed but looks like you are way on your way to fixing it so that's great. And I'm sorry for the death in your family

    Glad to see a blog from you! At least you kept most of your weight off. It sounds like you have had a lot of stress and challenges to deal with. I'm sorry about the family member and the medical crisis. I hope things have calmed down for you now. Good luck with your goals!
