Saturday 8/16/14

Saturday, August 16, 2014

Ahhh Saturday! That awesome day of the week when we run around like chickens with our heads cut off doing all of the things we didn't get done during the past week so we can get ready for next week! I am so blessed to be able to really enjoy my Saturdays now that I am retired. It's been 11 months since I retired, and I have enjoyed every day of it so far! Today I have a nail appointment, and then hubby and I will go for a walk and trim the bushes in the back yard. (OOOH too much fun for me LOL!)

We spent last weekend in Atlantic City, celebrating my birthday. It was awesome. It was a little weird though, as it was the first birthday without my Mom, so I didn't get that phone call from her, with she and my Dad singing Happy Birthday to me. That made me sad, and as I sat at one of the slot machines in AC thinking about that, I had tears running down my cheeks. Made me sad, and mad at myself for not being able to stop the tears! Hubby and I had a great day on my birthday. We went to a couple of casinos, and then walked on the beach and boardwalk. After a while we went swimming in the ocean, and played in the waves. We had a blast with that, and lost our hotel key in the ocean. Having no key and no ID, we had to beg for someone at the front desk of the hotel to help us out and give us a new key. We were successful with retrieving a new key, but then had to figure out where to go to dinner. Can you believe that there aren't many places in AC to eat that were kind of mid level places? We aren't big out to dinner people, so when we do go out it's pretty simple (think Subway because it's easy and consistent, and I know how many points the subs are....) We ended up at Johnny Rocket's on the boardwalk and had a 30 minute wait. That amazed me. A 30 minute wait at 8pm for dinner???? YIKES. Dinner was good though.....then back to gambling....

Monday morning we took our last walk on the beach before heading home and the Thunderbirds were practicing for the air show. That was really cool. They are so loud when they are flying directly overhead. Yesterday (Friday) my granddaughter and I saw them flying over our house, which was also pretty cool. They were louder on the beach, but it was still fun to point them out to a 4 year old, who was in awe of them!

I need to get myself back on track if I expect to WI at goal this month for my monthly WW weigh in. I did ok yesterday, made pizza for dinner, but counted all of the points for everything. There are a couple of big challenges coming up this week, the biggest next Saturday with hubby's family reunion, where we bring things that remind us of our trips to his mom's house, and believe me, not much of that stuff is healthy. I think I'm going to bring a veggie and fruit tray instead of pierogies and kielbasa this year!

Mantra:

I am the only one who can do this for myself.
I make the choice of what I put in my mouth.
I make the choice to exercise daily.
I make the choice to have a positive frame of mind.
I make the choice to be healthy!

Goals for today:
~ read my mantra
~ 80 oz water
~ 17,000 steps
~ 25 flights of stairs
~ keep an open mind
~ journal every bite
~ smile at least once an hour
~ learn something new and remember what I learned
~ eat a fruit or vegetable with every meal and as one snack today
~ laugh out loud today
~ focus on this lifestyle I have chosen for myself and don't sweat the small stuff

I'm glad that you enjoyed your trip to the east coast. Lucky. I haven't been that way in almost 20 years but it was to Syracuse, NY.

Your trip to Atlantic City sounds awesome! I too like Subway for the CONSISTENCY and for knowing the calorie count. AND, talk about veggies, right?

This whole year has been hard because I lost my dad last year. My mom now has incurable inoperable lung cancer so we don't know how long we'll have her. Your blog made me smile; my parents used to call & sing happy birthday to me also.

I woke up this morning and told my husband it was Saturday and he said, "SO? What's going to be different today?" And since we both are retired the answer is NOTHING! Ha hahahahaha

Love being retired. I feel like I'm in the sweet spot of life -- we're done with kids and work, yet we've still got our health and plenty of money to do whatever we want! Got to enjoy it while we can!
