FitDesk 2.0

Thursday, August 14, 2014

Friday was my 5-year wedding anniversary. My husband surprised me with the FitDesk stationary bike, which had been on my Amazon wishlist for a couple of years (and also on his wishlist, as we discovered a few weeks ago). We assembled it together on Saturday, and on Sunday, I rode it for the first time.

Now, this may seem like a strange anniversary present to some people, but he knows that I have been sitting a lot, using my laptop to use Facebook, check my mail, play some games, even do my homework when I have some to do. The FitDesk makes working out more convenient for me because it has a desk surface on which to place a laptop.

My husband found that Coach Nicole had reviewed the FitDesk in a blog about fitness-friendly alternatives to your desk chair a while ago. www.sparkpeople.com/blog

It turns out that the FitDesk we got is actually a newer version (2.0) which includes a height extender (which addresses a complaint that Coach Nicole had) and a chair back. Although Coach Nicole said not to expect much in the way of a workout while using the FitDesk, I have found that at my current weight (nearly my highest ever) and fitness level (which is pretty poor), I can only ride about 20 minutes before I am too sweaty and out of breath to continue.

The good news is that I have used the FitDesk four of the last five days, pedaling for about 20 minutes while browsing Facebook or my email. (I did not do any pedaling yesterday because I walked to the Farmer's Market, about 15 minutes each way, and was pretty busy the rest of the day.) I hope to work up to 30 minutes (or more) of pedaling each day as my stamina increases. This is a start to getting this weight off. I have to start somewhere.

I have thought of getting something like this - but I don't have a laptop. So it would be a bit awkward to load the processor, keyboard and monitors....
