Walking to Mom's house in a year challenge -- Day 3
Wednesday, August 13, 2014
I'm off to an embarrassing start. Only 1 mile on Monday. I let an inconvenient change in plans by daughter number 2 derail my evening walk. Not her fault. I'm in charge. Yesterday it rained and I only got in one mile then as well.
I set out to start to make up for it today, and completed 3 miles. I should still have completed another half, but now my knees are complaining and I need to save some for morning, just five and a half hours from now.
Good news on the knees front. I finally got them into the doctor, and with the weight loss so far, I've managed to prevent any further deterioration in over seven years. Next step will be injections of SynVisc. I had one knee done about six years ago and it was like magic. Something else to look forward to.
So, things I would have passed today:
This is the scenic Schuylkill River (say skookill, I'm sure there's some purist somewhere to correct me, but I don't speak Dutch)
Just at the end of this bridge under the wire cage is part of the Thun Trail (say toon), where I sometimes ride my bike. It's a very nice trail for most of the ride, though it has a reputation for being dangerous after dark.
And here's where we end our trek, just 5 miles from my city row house.
