13 pounds down! Protein Shakes Saved Me.
Tuesday, August 12, 2014
Okay, I am at 161.9 today, or 13 pounds down from my original weight of 175 earlier this year on my birthday.
I have been killing it in the gym. I am currently doing 3.8 miles in 42 minutes on the elliptical with intervals, and I carry 3 lb weights with me for 30 minutes of that time.
I am only eating about 800 calories during the day, which has REALLY helped. That's what it takes to reach my goals. Two protein shakes and some coffee during the day, and then about 500 - 600 calories at night.
My favorite protein shake is EAS AdvantEDGE in Chocolate Fudge. They are 100 calories / 17 protein and come in a pack of 4 for $7.50. Muscle Milk tastes better (though EAS doesnt taste bad), but the calorie to protein ratio for EAS is STELLAR. I loved Pure Protein Shake in Frosty Chocolate, but it was 180 calories and 20 protein, and it's like $10 for 4 bottles.
And yes, they fill me up.
I also like protein bars, but drinking shakes is just easier for me.
At home for dinner, if I'm not eating a salad out with friends, I eat a Dannon Light n Fit yogurt that is 80 cal / 12 protein (woo hoo!), and then indulge in like a tomato soup with skim milk (320 cal / 12 protein, a lot of sugar).
For my sneaky snacks, I like to have one serving of Cool Ranch popped rice chips or Skinny Sticks (the cheddar flavor and the sweet onion flavor are amazing!). Pretzels are always good too, so about 130 calories / 1 or 2 protein. The Sugar-Free Jello Puddings are super good at 60 calories across all the flavors.
I didn't mean to cut meat out of my diet, but it is working out so far!
During the day, I use a Mio water flavoring for the 5 or 6 cups of water I drink at work. I like strawberry kiwi and tangerine.
I have found that even though I don't eat solid food during the day, indulging on 600 calories in one sitting really fills me up, and I'm satisfied by bedtime. Seeing the scale go down a half a pound the next day is extremely vindicating!
