Half excited, half depressed...

Tuesday, August 05, 2014

After a great deal of discussion, hand wringing and hesitation, dh and I decided we would be better off to buy a "new" car than to sink a big chunk of change into our current car. Our current car has all kinds of problems and is in bad shape, and it's only a matter of time until other things start breaking down, on top of the major problem we're having right now. So I looked online at cars for many hours last night and this morning. Finally found one we liked, so we went to check it out. We liked it in person also. It's a champagne colored Kia Spectra. It's gonna be a big change from our Saturn SUV, but after having had this SUV for about 7 years, I swore I would never buy another one. We don't haul that much big stuff, and it just guzzles gas and is a pain to park. So now we will have a small, much easier on gas car.

They're keeping it to do a couple of repairs to it before they release it to us. We should have it within a week or so. I'm excited that we're going to have a car that works... with AC!... but I'm really really not excited about having to take on another car payment. I was hoping to make it a couple more years on our car, but it's just not gonna happen. So, I am the half-happy soon-to-be new owner of a Kia Spectra.

And that is pretty much all I have done today. I spent the entire morning looking on auto websites, talking to the dealer, doing the credit app, and all that jazz. Then I had some time to kill before waking dh up to go down there, but I was too antsy to do anything productive. I just wasted the time. When I woke dh up we headed down there and looked at the car and took care of all the paperwork and all that crap. Took forever. Also it was an hour drive to the dealership and an hour drive back. So yeah, my entire day has been spent procuring a car.

Nutrition hasn't been as bad as it could be. I had a breakfast burrito this morning, then I had one of my frozen homemade meals. Then we went to Taco Bell, where I was not good... but at least I stayed away from fries! By the time we were done at the dealership I was hungry again, but I'm proud to say I did not get fast food. I came home and made some tomato soup and a grilled cheese sandwich. I ate too much today, and the Taco Bell wasn't good, but I'm glad I didn't give in to the siren call of fast food for a second time.

Tomorrow will hopefully be more productive. I'm gonna try to get a couple things done around the house, plus the menu and grocery list and stuff. And making food of course. I'm not going to the gym because I don't feel comfortable driving our current car anywhere that isn't absolutely necessary. We shouldn't have to go anywhere at all tomorrow I'm hoping.
Tomorrow will be a healthier day though. I'm gonna get back on track with food, at least. No Taco Bell or other misc crap!

For the rest of the night, I'm just going to relax with a book. I was up til 3 this morning, then awake again at 7. So I haven't had much sleep and I'm really hoping I will be tired and sleep soundly tonight.

Hope everyone had a great Tuesday!

I see your point about the good and bad of the new car. I have not had a car payment since1986. I paid cash for the last three cars.. The latest is a 2006 Buick LaCrosse that I bought new and it just turned over 46,000 miles. It is in mint condition. I hope to drive it another ten years...

take pics of your new ride so we can see you behind the new wheel!

That is so exciting!!!So glad you got a new car.And with AC too. You can really use that this summer!! I have a friend has a Kia and she loves it.

I got a Nissan Juke about two years ago after driving a Mercury Sable for about 10 years. It was my mom's car and she had just gotten it in 02 when she got sick so she did not drive it much. Later the AC went in that too and you should have seen what our mechanic did to fix it. He said it would cost about $1800 to take out the panel that had the radio and heat/AC regulator so he bypassed that with a push/pull switch down by the gas pedal. Push in for heat, pull out for AC. It could still be turned off and on in by the regulator but could not control temperature so had to do that when it got too hot or too cold in the car. We used to call it Frankencar. Once the transmission went we got rid of it. It was a darn good car but bigger than I liked so when I was looking for a new car I had 3 requirements...small, good gas mileage and a back window windshield wiper. I really liked the Juke so we got it but it does not get as good gas mileage as I would like. But then I am no longer driving it. Younger daughter moved to NJ so we let her take it so she had the GPS to learn how to get around and I now drive her car which we call the hippy van, a 7 year old Vibe with Peace and Love bumper stickers all over the back. I either get a thumbs up or the finger from people driving by and at one outlet mall at Christmas one guy yelled at me bleeding heart liberal. emoticon I was really shocked!! I see bumper stickers that I don't agree with and I would never even think to yell something nasty at the person who owned the car. Really have to get my car back sometime soon. emoticon Since I work from home I don't really go anywhere but still somewhat embarrassing to have people yell at you. ANd younger daughter really did put a lot of bumper stickers all the back of the Vibe.

Enjoy your new car!!!! Especially the AC!!! emoticon

That's a hard decision but sounds like the right one. I have an 01 Saturn car and love it. Our new car is a KIA which our son sells them now. We love it and I bet you will love yours also. Sounds like you handled thing very well. Have a great hump day!

emoticon emoticon on the decision to purchase a KIA. From what I understand they are very good with gas mileage and the AC works!!! You most likely would of put more money in fixing the SUV over time than what you will end up paying car payments with the KIA. I think this is a great investment!

Hey a 1/2 emoticon on nutrition today!

Cool, a new car. Love it. We have a Subaru, it is super nice, has great gas mileage, and can haul the little stuff I need it to. Have seen the Kia's, they are nice. Enjoy!!
