Ouch...How My Priorities "Fell" Into Place

Wednesday, July 23, 2014

Is there such a thing as an "accident prone" person...and have I become one? Right now everything around me looks like a potential accident waiting to happen! Just when my finger has recovered fully from the Mandolin Slicer Incident, I find myself put out of commission again by another inanimate object.

This time it was a curb. Yes, a simple curb. I've stepped up or down from curbs a million times before with no problems, until last Saturday. Somehow, this particular curb took me by surprise! It caught my foot, launched me into the air, and unceremoniously slammed me onto the concrete sidewalk.

It looks innocent enough, but don't be fooled

Damages included a dislocated elbow and broken arm, along with some insignificant scrapes and bruises. I'll be in an arm immobilizer and sling for a few weeks, followed by a hinged elbow brace. After that, my Elbow Specialist (yes, there are such people) will determine if I need surgery.

One good thing is that I've managed to stick to my healthy diet through all of this. I had so many seemingly important things to do that day before I fell, but then the priority became taking care of myself. I've decided I'll keep it that way.

Hope you heal quickly and surgery is not needed! Great job eating healthy, stress puts me in munch mode and being laid up is stressful. Be careful and hopefully the clumsiness has left you!
