How things are going here.

Thursday, July 17, 2014

Saw my Rheumy last Thursday and was down another 10 pounds from 195.4 to 185.2. Very happy with that since I was stuck for so long a just above 200 pounds. My pro-times have been perfect for the last couple of months, which means I only have to have the blood work done once a month. Haven't checked online to see how my other blood work was but will either hear from the doctor or check this weekend.
Other news is Franks car we helped him purchased about 6 months ago for $3500 took a dive to car heaven. Jeff decided no more used cars and went to his credit union to co-sign for a used car. The approval was for $15,000. Think our son could find any good used car for under that amount @Enterprise, Hertz, CarMax or any number of car dealerships. Nooo, he only wants a Honda Fit, which he can barely fit into. I went with them after a week and tried to sit in one with the sit all the way back and still had to bend my knees a little bit. My son is 6'1".
We can not convince him this is not the car for him. Found a couple of great used cars, he looked at but only because we asked him too. One was a rag-top Chrysler Touring car that was 2 yrs old with 35, 000 miles on it. A real chick magnet, nope not interested. The other car I found was a 1 yr old Hyundai with 10,000 miles and still smelled new and perfect condition. So much more car, son looked at it again because we asked. Mileage was only a couple of miles less than the fit, but he would have none of it. I even said I would buy either one of them from him in 2-3 yrs., when I plan on purchasing a good used car. No luck.
So Jeff started looking at the difference between a new one and used one, only a couple 1000 dollars. So Jeff contacts the credit union, they raise the limit to $18,000. I am a bit pissed off. Frank only works part time and barely makes $400 a month after taxes. How is he going to pay for the car, insurance and gas on that. I am pretty sure the payments are going to be $250+ a month, who knows on full insurance but I figure around $200+ a month. Lets see he now has no money for gas or anything else. Hubby won't listen, it will all be find. Yeah cause we will be making the payments.
I already told him if Frank got a new car I would be really upset because when we talked about me getting a new car (getting rid of my Corvette because I am getting too old for it to be comfortable anymore), and I was talking about 2-3 yrs down the road. Jeff said "No". I can see this not turning out good and us taking over a car neither one of us wants. I think Jeff should have told him, your limit is $15,000 with taxes, so find something. Nope. He thinks this will make him find another job. Yeah right, if Dad is going to cover for him, I don't see him feeling the need to do that. Now I must say that my son has mild Asbergers Syndrome and OCD, so he gets stuck on something and nothing is going to change his mine. I just wish Jeff has put his foot down and told him, yeah this is what you can afford and we are not going over.

So other than that little problem things are going again on the rest of the house remodel. They have removed the old flooring from the one bedroom and done some other stuff. So out of here for now. xo

Oh my! That is a pile of money for a used car!! But getting a kid on a part time job a new one? I have to agree you are getting the short end of the stick here. Weird that such a tiny car would cost so much, wonder what on Earth the big guy sees in it??? Not teaching him any responsibility what so ever. I hope this turns out somehow..
I hope your weather is reasonable and you can get out and enjoy walks!

Congratulations on the 10 pounds lost! That is super! What a great job, Teri!
I totally agree with YOU on the car deal. The limit should be set and held to that, and if son doesn't make the payment, Mom and Dad sell the car immediately and pay off the debt. emoticon
