an August Attitude ...

A year ago August I recorded 195. That is my goal for August 15th. I have lost nearly 10 pounds in part thanks to my sailor son who worked me through the month of June - nothing severe but stepped up from where I was. Diet was modified to no meat, only fowl or fish. The carnivore that I am, I broke that about 3 times (I couldn't resist the June Summer BBQ), but for the most part I embraced it. I also took hydroxycut. I had to modify to caffeine-free as I love my morning coffee even in hot weather - and my caffeine levels went crazy. Actually I'm still taking as 8 weeks is recommended.

In July and every three months my work load amps up and throws me off kilter. My goal is to manage it - not succumb to bad habits, not let go. Its hard to keep a good eating pattern. This month, I'm too busy, too tired, too hot, too ... to eat when/what I'm supposed to.

My plan is to have the right foods available and make common sense adjustments; not frustrate myself. I keep fruit and salads available - I get strawberries, plums and nectarines from the Farmers Market and also dried raisins and cranberries along with (my run-on sentence) spinach and romaine lettuces, tomato, zucchini and yellow squash (which I usually grill).

Fitness again the same excuses. I found an indoor place to walk - the mall is 1.5 miles per roundtrip and ahhhh air-conditioned. My zumba days will be fewer and shorter until the cooler weather comes. I'm slowing down a bit this month, but adjusting my calories.

My goal ... vacation at end of month. Hello swimming, water aerobics, walking, laughing, singing, good company, and mostly good healthy food. So I plan to go into August with renewed vigor and amp up the exercise to the degree possible in this heat.

God willing and the creek don't rise, I will not only meet where I was a year ago, but begin a serious weightloss trend. Last August, from that date I began a continuous climb. This year I hope to tell another story!
