July Goals and the 5K Your Way Running Training Program

Thursday, July 03, 2014

My goals for July are:

1. To work out for 40 minutes a day (1 rest day a week)
2. To drink 10 glasses of water every day
3. To three meals a day
4. To get 8 hours of sleep per day
5. To get the 1000 fitness minutes trophy again (Haven't gotten it since October)
6. To run 3x each week

In looking at my Spark Trophies, I noticed I haven't quite reached the 1000 fitness minutes/month trophy since October of last year (which was my greatest month, fitness and weight loss wise.)

I'd really like to push past this and get the 1500 minutes and 2000 minute trophies, but before I can do that I need to get 1000 minutes in a month again, so that is my main goal for July. It should be doable, and I'm very excited.

Also, I'm so ready for it to be Halloween.

Additionally, I ran today trying to follow the 5K your way training plan. Only managed about 20 minutes instead of 32. There were two things that I think caused this fail.

One: I misread the intervals, so instead of walking 1 minute and running 3, I was walking 1 and running 4.

Two: I know it's wrong, but I feel like because I am doing walking intervals, that's somehow 'cheating' and so during the running intervals I compensated by running harder. What I need to do next time is actually follow the directions for the right week, and also not push myself so hard.

Walking isn't cheating, it is kind of necessary right now if I want to be able to run more than 20 minutes at a time again. Hopefully at the end of the 5 weeks I'll have enough endurance to run 5Ks again, and after that if I want to go crazy with the speed I can, but now is NOT the time for that.
