Courage to try again.

Tuesday, June 24, 2014

June 24, 2014:

A Spark article I read yesterday suggested that starting over might be a good idea for someone who's been stuck for a while. I've been losing and gaining the same 10 pounds for eight months now, and I think that qualifies me as "stuck". I've resisted, believing perseverance, not starting over, is what I needed to do because STARTING is something I do really well, but finishing has been more elusive.

Then came the "messages." My new team leader posted a quote yesterday, "If you want what you do not have, you must do what you have not done" (thanks, ZanyGirl1!), and then BUTTERFLY made a comment this morning about new beginnings.

...sometimes we just HAVE to pay attention to the "coincidental" things around us, and this morning I decided. I've been here long enough to understand that sometimes we have to just bite the bullet and change something, no matter how uncomfortable it is (or maybe BECAUSE it's uncomfortable).

So here I am, starting over, Day #1. I'm tempted to sigh, but I refuse to see this as failure, and am instead going to cheer for myself for the courage to A) Try again and B) Tell all of you!

Now it's time to put what I've learned to work. Thank you, dear friends. You guys are the BEST!

:) Gail

I always feel like I am starting over then I see the 25 plus pounds I lost and realize I just had a pit stop and am moving on. Changing things up helps keep us interested anyway! You go girl! Never give up.

Awesome! There is a saying that goes something like " If you keep doing what you have always done, you will keep getting what you have always got" I am sure I have fractured that but you know what I mean. Sometimes we just have to start fresh and change up everything in order to get results! Good Luck - I am in it with you!

Well at least you know how your mind works and you are working with it instead of against it. That is winning in my book. I am proud of you for sticking with it and I do hope this works well for you (newbie) LOL ! Keep pushing !

You are as always - inspiring and your willingness to share your growing awareness is so timely! Having just written a short blog which included a half hearted commitment to refocus, I read your blog and realised that my insistence on keeping on, rather than starting afresh is one of the things holding me back. On reflection, that's a strategy something akin to "knowing you're driving on the wrong road, but keeping going anyway" (something I realise after reading your blog, I actually do when I've lost my direction).

I shall take a leaf out of your book and re-consider my strategy! Thank you.

    Some things to consider:

Now you are on a new journey... what will be different? What will you be doing/feeling that makes it different and new? Are there any strategies from the previous journey that were helpful, that could be utilised perhaps refreshed to help you on this new journey? What outdated/unhelpful strategies are you going to ditch? When you look at where you want to go... are going to do it in one long haul e.g. one new journey? Or several new journeys?

This isn't failure, it's just a re-set button. Sort of like playing your favorite part of the movie several times, but never watching the end because there's so much good stuff in the middle.

We do our best, and that is the best we can do. If making a fresh start gets you to the ending you need, you go girl!

Wishing you much success as you continue your WL journey. I'll be rooting for you.

emoticon For me as well. I fresh start makes the journey seem more refreshing!! It is sure better than quitting it! I have been gaining and losing the same 10 pounds too for a few months and have yet to really make any progress at all. emoticon

It is NOT a failure. Do you know that the more times you try to quit smoking the higher your chances are to REALLY quit? You will do this! I have faith in you!

Here is another one for you: "Defeat brings a lesson, it gives a chance to rebuild, a chance to start again, with the knowledge of what does NOT work" -Leon Brown.
Don't forget my personal motto: "Fall down seven times. stand up eight" (or in my case more like seventy!) emoticon emoticon

That is very good advice. All of us get stuck at times.

AT least you are still working on the same 10. I am up close to 25 lbs.... very discouraging, but I was accountable and edited my weight ticker today instead of denying it. Also, been for a walk already, did the 1.8K I was up to before my trip and the lousy weather.....and not as tired!!!!! Also did a SP 11 min. seated workout...Cool.....

Good Lucky...let's do it right this time...

It is definitely not a failure, do not think of it that way. I have had to go back and re-evaluate a couple of times as I have hit plateaus and change things up - that is normal. You can do this!

Good for you, Gail! I guess, in a way, I am starting over again as well, by joining a new team! So far, it has definitely helped my commitment level! Maybe a new start is what we both needed.

Excellent, sometimes it really does take a fresh start. And, this is not quitting, it is just acknowledging a need to do something different. Great blog, great plan.
