Is it possible to ween yourself off sugar?

Tuesday, June 17, 2014

I have a terrible time with sugar. Hypothyroidism doesn't help, unfortunately, and it could be a while yet before we find a treatment that works for me.

I try to go without sugar, I really do. The fog hits, the lack of energy, the aches and pains. And I know why I feel that way, I honestly do. But I need to work. I need to be able to function. So I cave. Even if it's just a little bit.

I'm wondering if I can start paying close attention to my sugar intake and decrease it until I'm completely weened off of it. SP and My Fitness Pal track sugar so I could just start today and work to have less each day. Even if it's 1 gram less! I used to bug my dad about smoking. I'd say why not just count how many you have today and have 1 less tomorrow. 1 less the next day, and so on. Even half a cigarette less each day would have been better than nothing.

Has anyone ever tried it?

Yes I think you can quit sugar. I have. But then I eat a packet of sweet and low now and then.

Those are both great ideas. I do try to use fruits as my sweets now, but refined sugar is what my body craves naturally. I like the half measure idea. The trick, of course will be to remember that I did have the sweet so I don't need to have more. That much I think I can do. I've been off soda for a while now and I don't miss it so I know once it's out, I won't want it. Thanks!

What about fruits like watermelon? Grapes? I had about a cup and a half maybe two cups every day for a month (frozen) as a snack .... and now I dont even crave sweets. Theres even a gallon of ice cream in my freezer.

You can wean yourself off anything by using the "HALF MEASURE". Cut whatever it is in half for a week or two; than cut that portion in half for a week or so; and you keep cutting it in half until you are totally off of it. God Bless YOU! Vic.
